Breakfast radio royalty Kyle and Jackie O have been dethroned by AM station 2GB’s Ben Fordham in Sydney’s latest ratings.

The KIIS FM was named the most popular breakfast show in June for both AM and FM bandwidths, but the new numbers show Fordham has taken back its crown.

Fordham now holds the leading share of the breakfast market at 16.8 percent, after an impressive 3.5 points increase in the last review period.

In second place was ABC with a market share of 14 percent, Kyle and Jackie O in third place with 12.1 percent after dropping 3.4 points.

The result is nothing short of a coup for Fordham, who took over the 2GB breakfast show from Alan Jones a year ago.

Despite the outcome, Kyle and Jackie O are still celebrating their FM bandwidth dominance, having beaten their closest rival WSFM’s Jonesy and Amanda by 3.3 percent.

Fitzy and Wippa of Nova FM had a mediocre return with a share of 6.1 percent, while 2Day’s Morning Crew with Dave Hughes, Ed Kavalee and Erin Molan languished at the bottom of the ratings at just 2.4 percent.

‘Talk radio can and does make a difference in people’s lives,’ said Greg Byrnes, director of 2GB The Daily Telegraphh.

“Across the talk radio network, our strategy is delivering live and local content, with a total audience of almost seven percent,” he said of the ratings during the lockdown.
