Ukrainian officials have complained that the United States is putting limits on how far kyiv can strike inside Russia, preventing it from attacking key air bases.

kyiv has claimed that Washington is limiting the distance it can strike inside Russia to 62 miles from the border, which it claims puts airfields used by enemy fighter jets out of reach. Washington Post has reported.

It comes after President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that military aid sent by the West is not enough to defeat Putin.

The Pentagon, however, denied the claims and a spokesperson said Ukraine “has the ability to strike back.”

Earlier this month, Washington gave kyiv permission to strike inside Russia with American-made missiles.

The United States had previously been reluctant to allow such attacks to take place for fear of an escalation of the conflict.

However, Washington changed its mind after the Kremlin launched a cross-border offensive toward Kharkiv in early June.

The dispute over US limits on Ukrainian missile strikes has been reignited as two people were injured and dozens of residential buildings were damaged in a Russian missile attack in the Kiev region overnight.

Of the three missiles launched by Russia, Ukrainian air defense systems destroyed two over the kyiv region, Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk said today.

In his statement on the Telegram messaging app, Oleshchuk did not say what happened to the third missile.

Two people were injured by falling debris, Ruslan Kravchenko, head of the Kiev region administration, said on Telegram.

Debris also damaged six multi-story residential buildings and more than 20 houses, Kravchenko added.

A gas station, a pharmacy, an administrative building and three cars in the region were also damaged.

kyiv, the surrounding region and several other areas of Ukraine were under air strike alert for about an hour on Sunday morning, starting at 4:50 a.m. local time.

Witnesses reported hearing several explosions in and around kyiv at the time that sounded like air defense systems hitting aerial weapons.

The missile attack comes as Russia also claims to have used an M-54 FAB-3000 glide bomb for the first time in Ukraine, which is twice the size of its standard FAB-1500 bomb.

The target of the missile attack was reportedly the village of Lyptsi in the Kharkiv region.

A video circulating on Telegram shows extensive damage to the village, although comments admitted that the attack had not reached its objective.

US officials described the use of the FAB-3000 M-54 gliding bomb as a “significant advance” in the conflict.
