Kristoffer Ajer vows to leave Celtic this summer… and claims his departure is ‘best for both sides’ amid Newcastle’s interest in the Norwegian defender

Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer has confirmed that he wants to leave the Scottish club, according to Norwegian media.
The 23-year-old Norwegian international, who has one year left on his contract, has been linked with Newcastle.
Ajer told VG: “There are a lot of rumours, and at the moment there are only rumours.

“Obviously something is going to happen this summer. It’s best for both parties.’
Regarding possible destinations, Ajer said: ‘(In terms of which) club, I don’t want to get into anything.
“We’ll get to that later, but it’s a top five competition that I’m aiming for.”
He added: “I have had good experience after playing almost 180 games for a top club like Celtic.

“I have experienced what football can be on good days and bad days. So it has been a very good experience.’
Ajer has been with Celtic since 2016. His time at the club was marked by a loan spell with Kilmarnock in 2016-17, and he signed a new four-year deal with the Hoops in 2018.
He played 47 games for the club in 2020/21, scoring twice.
