The couple of comedians and actors Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont are divorcing after nine years of marriage, they announced in a joint statement.

A statement to the Palestinian Authority news agency said: “After 9 years of marriage, we would like to announce that we have separated. We have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go our separate ways.

‘As our only priority is managing this difficult transition for our daughter, we ask that our privacy be respected at this delicate time to protect her well-being. We will not comment further.”

They began dating in 2013 after meeting through Roisin Conaty, before marrying in April 2015 and welcoming their daughter in September the following year.

The pair starred in Meet The Richardsons, which began in 2019, in which they play ‘exaggerated versions of themselves’ and also fronted Channel 4 panel Jon & Lucy’s Odd Couples, which featured celebrity couples last year.

The ‘mockumentary at home’, airing on UKTV’s Dave with series five starting this month, saw Beaumont nominated for a Bafta TV Award in the category of female performance in a comedy program in 2023.

Last year, Lucy confessed that viewers often don’t understand that her fights aren’t real, saying: “It’s been great, but I see comments on social media and people don’t seem to realize it’s not real…

‘I’m not a dominator; We wouldn’t have lasted this long if I had been so mean to him in real life. You don’t want to see a stuck-up couple in love, in a nice house, with a stable career and a charming child. Who wants to see that?

‘I wouldn’t do it if we were going to be like this. We will show the other side where we are constantly against each other. It is a more truthful representation.

“The world around us is a bit strange, but I think people still feel like they recognize themselves in it, which is good.”

Lucy spoke in January last year about working with her husband and said: “We like working together and enjoying Meet The Richardsons and we really wanted to do something that people could relate to…

‘Meet The Richardsons is basically an excuse for us to channel tensions into comedy and you see that in the studio, someone might start saying something thinking they’re going to land a blow, but as soon as we and the audience start laughing at them , they realize that everything is nonsense.

Speaking about what they learned while filming Jon and Lucy’s Odd Couples, Lucy continued: ‘We’ve learned that all couples have problems with each other and have constant tensions about something. We’re all the same.’

Jon continued: ‘It’s not about whether you have problems or not, but how you deal with them. There is no perfect couple. “Michael and Hilary Whitehall were absolutely brutal to each other and that is now the lexicon of their marriage.”

Last year it was confirmed that Meet The Richardsons would be renewed for a fifth season, after winning the Best Comedy category at the Broadcast Digital Awards 2022.

Speaking to The Sun in April last year, Lucy said: “Yes, we have another series commissioned…

‘The idea for the next series is that we want to make a sitcom and make it a bit like Heartbeat with gags, but as Jon wants to retire soon, he wants to win an award. That’s why he wants the comedy to be more surreal and abstract…

“So we each go and come up with ideas for our own comedy, then we take it to a focus group and we have to get back together.”

The fourth series which aired last year saw the couple move house and featured guest stars including Ben Elton and Adrian Chiles.

The show first launched on the channel in 2020 and the pair wrote it alongside Peter Kay’s Car Share writer Tim Reid.
