Kate Winslet has criticized the use of diet drug Ozempic, saying it “sounds terrible” as she reflects on her own weight loss battle.

The actress, 48, admitted she didn’t really know what the vaccine was and advised people should “eat some more things.”

Ozempic was first developed to treat type 2 diabetes, but its popularity has skyrocketed recently after being used off-label in both the US and UK to treat obesity.

It has become particularly popular among the rich and famous and is reportedly used by a host of celebrities such as Sharon Osborne, Oprah Winfrey and Elon Musk.

But Kate was shocked to learn about the drug, especially after facing huge public scrutiny over her body in the early days of her career.

The actress, 48, admitted she didn’t really know what the vaccine was and advised people should “eat some more things” (pictured last month).

speaking to The New York Times Magazine, said: ‘I actually don’t know what Ozempic is. All I know is that it’s a pill that people are taking or something. But what is this?’

The publication explained that the drug was injected to calm people’s appetite and allow them to lose weight.

Kate, shocked, replied: ‘Oh my God. This sounds terrible. Let’s eat some more things!’ before she noticed that she was showing off eating her cake.

She also opened up about the harsh criticism she has faced over her weight and acknowledges that she previously struggled with an eating disorder.

Kate added that as a result of that, she now doesn’t let people talk about weight and criticizes them if they do.

She said: ‘I never told anyone about this. Because guess what: People in the world around you say, “Hey, you look great! You lost weight!”

‘So even praise for looking good is related to weight. And that’s something I won’t let people talk about. If they do, I’ll pick them up immediately.’

Last month, Kate said she was happy young stars were facing shame and having a voice in the industry.

During an appearance in Today’s programHost Hoda Kotb called Kate a “champion of women,” but added, “But you didn’t run your career that way all the time because you were like a lot of young actresses.”

Kate replied: ‘It’s really interesting how much it’s changed. And I think about the times when I had to say, “Well, look, I’m going to be myself. And I have curves. And this is who I am.”

On shaming in the industry, he said: ‘That has changed. And it has changed because young women are now born with a voice.

‘They have a voice, they are learning to hold on to it and they stand up for themselves. They know they matter. They count for something. They are great together.

‘I think it’s an exciting time for younger actresses to enter an industry like this, which is huge. But feeling held, supported and nurtured has changed a lot. It’s wonderful.’

It comes after Kate revealed in an interview with the Sunday Times that she faced harsh criticism at the start of her career.

The actress recalled being told she would be cast in ‘fat girl’ roles when she was a student.

“It can be extremely negative,” he told the outlet. “People are subject to scrutiny that is more than a young, vulnerable person can cope with.”

Kate previously spoke openly about the body criticism she experienced when starring in Titanic, aged just 21, calling it “almost abusive”.

Kate, who rose to fame after playing Rose in 1997’s Titanic, says the tides are now changing.

He noted: “But in the film industry this is really changing. When I was younger, my agent would get calls saying, “How’s your weight?” It is not a joke. That’s why it’s comforting that this has started to change.”

In 2021, Kate spoke openly about the body criticism she experienced around the time she starred in Titanic, when she was just 21 years old.

Kate slammed the “almost abusive” body shaming she has suffered from obsessive fans of hit movie Titanic.

The star became a household name after playing lovelorn Rose DeWitt Bukater opposite Leonardo DiCaprio as impoverished artist Jack Dawson in director James Cameron’s 1997 take on the early 20th century disaster.

Kate has since faced cruel trolls who claimed her weight was the reason Leo’s character couldn’t board the floating gate with Rose to ensure they both survived the catastrophe.

Instead, Jack was forced to sadly accept his inevitable death in icy waters while his lover remained safely afloat.

Addressing the pivotal scene during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Kate said: “Apparently I was too fat. Why were they so mean to me? They were so mean. I wasn’t even fucking fat.

Kate also reflected on how she wishes she had addressed the vile comments at the time.

He added: “I would have responded, I would have said, ‘Don’t you dare treat me like that. I am a young woman, my body is changing, I am discovering it, I am deeply insecure. I’m terrified, don’t make this harder than it already is.

She continued: “That’s bullying, you know, and it actually borders on abuse,” I would say.
