David 'Dave' Myers became well-liked as one half of motorcycle cooking duo, The Hairy Bikers, with fellow chef Simon 'Si' King.

When hairy biker Dave Myers died of cancer last month, it was his best friend Si King who led the tributes.

King said he will “miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared for half a lifetime” in announcing Myers’ death on social media.

“I wish you God’s speed, brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. We’ll see you on the other side. I love you,” he added in a statement to X, formerly Twitter.

The two enjoyed the journey of a lifetime together, forming one of television’s most enduring double acts and bringing joy to millions with their cooking.

They met on the set of a TV series in 1995, before King sold Myers what he called the “worst motorcycle you’ve ever seen.”

Tonight’s final episode of the couple’s latest series, The Hairy Bikers Go West, reveals Myers’ affectionate words to his best friend. He tells her their TV double act was a “dream come true” and adds: “Who knows what the future holds but for now I’m living in the present, and it’s pretty good.”

Myers first learned to cook at age 11 after her mother Margaret fell ill with multiple sclerosis.

He previously told the Mail how he made “complicated salads with all kinds of ingredients”, while other dishes were made with a little too much garlic.

At the age of 17, Myers was struck by a second tragedy when his father was struck by a debilitating stroke.

After having to care for both of them, the presenter was forced to send his mother to the hospital, and she never returned.

Born in Barrow-in-Furness, Myers began his media career as a make-up artist at the BBC, before meeting King.

As a student, he worked in a steel mill to finance his fine arts studies.

His first show with King, The Hairy Bikers’ Cookbook, launched on the BBC in 2006 and saw them traveling to countries including Portugal, Romania and Namibia, tasting the local cuisine and experimenting with its preparation themselves.

Their combination of riding their motorcycles to locations across the world and cooking up a storm as they go has earned them a loyal following.

The duo also wowed viewers with their cheeky Nordic humor and enthusiasm.

After their first show, the bearded duo filmed many more series and specials for the BBC, researching new dishes in countries including India, Vietnam, Argentina and Mexico.

They also sampled the cuisines of countries closer to home, such as Ireland and the Isle of Man.

Over the course of their career, they have published more than 30 cookbooks together.

In November, King told BBC Breakfast that their friendship of more than 30 years came “naturally” to them as they were “good friends” and “separated each other’s families”.

Myers also recalled during the interview that King cooked him his favorite comfort food of ground meat and dumplings while he was being treated for cancer.

At the time, the TV chef said he had “really been enjoying life” as he had started cycling and filming again with his “best friend”.

King said last month that he will “miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared for half a lifetime.”

“I wish you God’s speed, brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. We’ll see you on the other side. I love you,” he added in a statement to X, formerly Twitter.

He also thanked well-wishers for sending messages of support to Myers, saying: “It meant everything to him, his family and the whole Hairy Bikers team.”

Following his diagnosis, Myers briefly took a break from work before filming his latest show with King, which sees them traveling west across Britain, from Scotland to Devon.

King previously said the series would be one they would “always remember.”

“We are very privileged to do what we do and I think this one was particularly special in general because of Dave’s health and his determination and his love for what he does,” he said. he adds.

“Above all, continuing to do this while he was undergoing treatment took remarkable courage and energy – and that explains why Dave and I will not forget him.”

The 57-year-old presenter said the travelogue was “a celebration of a joyous and creative friendship” and he was happy they returned to his co-presenter’s original home of Lancashire during the series.

After performing dances such as the salsa, jive and paso doble, both men were eliminated from the competition during the seventh week.

He has also appeared as a guest on numerous shows including Sunday Brunch, Countdown, Should I Lie To You?, All Star Family Fortunes and The Weakest Link.

For a BBC Two series, A Cook Abroad, Myers had to travel to Egypt without King after suffering a brain aneurysm in 2014, which his co-presenter later said he was only able to survive thanks to a considerable weight loss.
