Knife-waving man, 40, is shot by the police after nine hours of siege in remote rural town
A man died after a siege and confrontation with the police in a house on the Mid North Coast of NSW.
The police were called to the house on Robertson Street in Taree on Wednesday at 1.15 pm for concerns about the well-being of a man.
Officers tried to negotiate with the 40-year-old who was supposed to be armed with a knife, with the distance taking several hours.

Officers of the Tactical Operations Regional Support group forced the door of the house around 10:15 pm and were challenged by the man who was allegedly armed with a large knife.
The officers tried to disarm him in various ways, including the use of a Taser, before shooting him. He died a short time later at the Manning Base Hospital.
A critical incident investigation has been started. The police call for witnesses.
