A woman has urged shoppers to always wash their new store-bought carpets after being disgusted by the cloudy colored water after the deep clean.

The Australian shopper said she decided to ‘carpet wash’ her new $ 45 criss-cross carpet after becoming curious about how ‘dirty’ it is.

“I wanted to see how dirty they are from factory to house – I’m so glad I washed it, the water is disgusting,” Sue wrote in a Kmart fan group on Facebook.

“I first ran the vacuum over it, as I normally do with new carpets, but also decided to wash them with carpet too,” said Sue.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Kmart for a comment.

To clean the carpet, she used the Bissell Professional carpet cleaning solution, which retails for $ 24.95 at Office Works or Harvey Norman.

Many were shocked to see photos, but some suggested that the brown water could be the result of the residual dye removed rather than just dirt.

“To me, that looks like dye, but still, dirty!” one person said online.

“You get a lot of paint from the carpet, don’t think it’s all dirty,” said another.

A third added, “Those carpets never stay clean, so I really believe it’s not just paint, it’s dirty.”

Kmart sells a range of rugs made of faux fur, wool, cotton, jute and polyester.

The gray rug purchased by Sue is made of polyester and recycled fabric, and according to the product description, the rug should be cleaned according to the instructions on the care label.
