Klay reflects on the “uncertainty” of the Warriors’ final game against the Kings Originally appeared in NBC Bay Area Sports
Klay Thompson’s final game in a Warriors uniform probably didn’t go the way he wanted.
In an NBA Play-In tournament game against the Sacramento Kings, one of the greatest shooters of all time was left without goalsmissing all 10 of his field attempts and six from beyond the arc. The Warriors lost by 24 points, ending their 2023-24 NBA season.
During his Introductory press conference on Tuesday With the Dallas Mavericks, Thompson had the chance to reflect on his emotions during that loss, which would prove to be the end of an era for Golden State.
“There was just a lot of uncertainty,” Thompson began. “Our season was over, my contract was coming up, so I remember thinking, ‘I’m going to make the most of it.'”
Thompson acknowledged the loss still hurt, but he made sure to savor the moment, knowing his future was in doubt.
“In professional sports, there’s nothing guaranteed, whether I get a contract extension or I go somewhere else,” Thompson explained. “When I was still wearing the Warriors uniform, I looked up and saw Warriors fans spread out all over the stadium. At that moment I was still very grateful and just wanted to take it all in, because you never know when something good comes to an end.”
Andy Bernard from “The Office” once said, “I wish there was a way to know you’re in the good old days before you’ve left them.”
It seems Thompson was able to recognize that he was in those good times, even in his final moments. Let’s hope his seasons on Dallas are better than the last seasons of “The Office” without Michael Scott.
