- Liam Lawson currently drives for Visa RB
- There is speculation about a move to Red Bull in 2025
- He would partner with Max Verstappen
New Zealand Formula One driver Liam Lawson has suggested a decision is imminent regarding Sergio Perez’s cloudy future at Red Bull.
Lawson, 22, who replaced Australian Daniel Ricciardo at Visa RB in September, is preparing for the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend.
His future remains up in the air, with speculation that the New Zealand-born star could usurp Perez and team up with Max Verstappen in 2025.
“I think next week would be the time I would expect to have some information,” Lawson told reporters Friday when asked about his future.
‘What I’m focused on is taking a seat. This weekend (Abu Dhabi) is my last chance to show that and why I feel I should be here.
“I feel like I’ve made the most of every opportunity, but I definitely didn’t execute everything perfectly, and there are things I’ll learn as I reflect on these races.”
‘I would say I definitely tried and gave my best at every opportunity. Every decision, whatever I did at that moment, seemed like the best thing I could do, but obviously you never have the perfect race.”
According to multiple reports, Perez, 34, will not be a Red Bull driver beyond this year after just four podiums in 2024.

If Lawson is given the opportunity to work closely with four-time drivers’ championship winner Verstappen, he will be elated.
“I feel like if the opportunity to go to Red Bull one day arose, I would feel ready for it,” he added.
“I think I would love to have the opportunity to face (Max Verstappen) if I ever had that opportunity. You can learn from the best guy.
Lawson’s Visa RB teammate Yuki Tsunoda is also said to be considering a move to Red Bull.
Heading into Sunday’s season finale, Australian Oscar Piastri occupies fourth place in the standings.
The 23-year-old McLaren driver has been impressive, scoring two victories and eight podiums.
The race in Abu Dhabi is scheduled to start at 12:00am AEDT on Monday, December 9, with drivers completing 58 laps around the Yas Marina circuit.
