A woman who was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend in a domestic violence incident had dreams of following in her father’s footsteps and becoming a police officer.
Jeremaia Tuwai, 21, is accused of murdering his girlfriend Nuniah Kurualeba, 21, inside an apartment on the Great Western Highway in Kingswood, in Sydney’s west, at about 1.40pm on Monday.
Emergency services arrived at the unit, where they found the woman with two stab wounds to the chest. Despite the efforts of paramedics to save her, she died at the scene.
Tuwai allegedly fled the scene, sparking a chase that lasted six hours before he was arrested at 7.10pm on Derby Street, Penrith.
Ms Kurauleba had been living and working in Australia after migrating from Fiji several years ago.
In 2016, his father, Police Constable Viliame Kurualeba, died after falling ill and, speaking to local Fijian media at the time, he revealed he wanted to follow in his footsteps.

Police have been searching a unit where the young woman was allegedly killed.
“I really miss him,” Kurualeba, then 14, told the Fiji Sun.
Ms Kurualeba was the eldest of four children born to her father and mother, Merelini.
Ms Kurualeba posted this photo of herself online about an hour before her death.
Just an hour before her death, Kurualeba shared a photo on TikTok showing her smiling for a selfie.
Videos posted on social media show her dancing with friends and exploring places around Sydney.
Tributes have begun pouring in online, with devastated loved ones posting broken heart emojis.
“Oh Lord! Why?” wrote a friend.
Detectives remained at the crime scene Tuesday morning, searching the area for evidence.
White fingerprint dust could be seen on the window of the ground-floor apartment in the run-down block of flats.
Following his arrest, Tuwai was taken to Penrith Police Station where he was charged with murder and domestic violence.
He was refused bail and is due to appear before Penrith Local Court later today.
Ms Kurualeba had dreams of becoming a police officer like her father, who died eight years ago.
