Manchester United players were left divided over whether to celebrate or not after beating Coventry on penalties in the FA Cup semi-finals.

When Rasmus Hojlund took the decisive penalty to send United into the final against rivals Manchester City, half the team celebrated, while some players opted not to.

Antony, for example, put his ear close to Coventry fans, prompting criticism from pundit Clinton Morrison.

Christian Eriksen, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Omari Forson were the other United players seen celebrating.

However, the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Diogo Dalot and Amad Diallo were much more reserved after United’s place in the final was confirmed. Meanwhile, Harry Maguire shook hands with the Coventry players immediately after the penalty shootout ended.

Some United players seemed reluctant to celebrate given how close they had come to being knocked out of the Championship by Coventry.

United had established a three-goal lead, with Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes all scoring.

However, Ellis Simms’ 71st-minute goal gave Coventry hope, with Callum O’Hare and Haji Wright finding the net to send the match into extra time.

Victor Torp thought he had won the game for Coventry in extra time, but his effort was disallowed for offside against Wright following a VAR check.

A penalty shootout followed, with Hojlund taking his penalty kick after Ben Sheaf missed for Coventry.

Roy Keane claimed that some United players seemed embarrassed to win.

“Some of the United players and supporters didn’t go overboard with the celebrations.” He said on ITV. “In the end they were almost embarrassed to win.

‘Every time I see this United team I don’t like what I see. Speaking of leadership and character, I don’t see that in this United team. My goodness, they were lucky today.

“We have the same conversation every week with Man United, you don’t know what you’re going to get.”

You always say you need a little luck. Maguire said they showed good character, I don’t see character in this group of players. I’m looking at the goalkeeper, wasting time. He just continues with the game. He shows some courage.
