A man has had to fight for his life after being stabbed in what is believed to have been a random attack.

Emergency services arrived at a private property on Alfred Street, Kingaroy in Queensland, shortly before 12.30am on Sunday, following reports of a serious injury.

A 42-year-old Kingaroy man was found with a laceration to the back of his head.

The man was treated at the scene by Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics before being transported to Kingaroy Hospital in a critical condition.

He has since been flown to Brisbane.

Kingaroy (pictured) is a rural Queensland town with a population of just over 10,000 people. It is understood the attacker, who fled before police arrived, was not known to the man he stabbed.

Another man, unknown to the 42-year-old, fled the scene before police arrived.

Queensland Police are urging people who saw anything suspicious at the time of the incident to come forward.

They are also appealing to anyone who may have relevant dash cam/CCTV footage to come forward.

The investigations continue.
