The heartbroken family of a loving father killed in a suspected hit-and-run have broken their silence.
Colin Watson, 36, was walking pre-dawn to buy milk at around 5am on Tuesday in Kingaroy, in Queensland’s South Burnett region, when he was allegedly hit from behind by a black Mercedes which then fled the scene.
Mr Watson suffered traumatic injuries and could not be resuscitated at the scene, which was several hundred metres from his home.
Another man, aged 27, who is believed to have been walking with Mr Watson at the time, was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Police later located a Mercedes at an address near Taabinga, where they arrested a 30-year-old man. No charges were filed. They have not yet been established.
Pauline Donohue held back tears as she revealed her nephew Mr Watson had gone to get milk so his family could have their morning coffee.
He was a good friend,’ Ms Donohue said. he told Nine News.
‘He would help anyone who needed a hand, they would just come looking for him or ask him and he would be there.

Police spent much of Tuesday at the scene of the alleged hit-and-run.
Police have launched an investigation into the “absolutely tragic” death of Ms Watson.
Police have not yet ruled out speed as a possible factor.
It is not known whether Mr Watson and the alleged driver knew each other.
“We’re keeping an open mind at this point as to how it occurred,” Inspector Scott Stahlhut told reporters.
“There’s nothing to suggest at this stage that that was a factor, but certainly driving style is a major consideration in what we’re seeing at the moment.”
Detectives and forensic investigators spent much of the day at the scene sifting through the debris.
“Evidence has been collected from the scene and we have the vehicle in question which will be examined further,” Inspector Stalhut said.
Colin Watson has been remembered as a “good friend” who was always there to help anyone.
Ms. Watson’s death has shocked the community.
“My God, how sad. That was probably his daily walk too. It’s the last thing you think can happen when he’s out exercising. He’s a poor family,” one neighbour told the Courier Mail.
South Burnett Mayor Kathy Duff said the death was an “absolute tragedy” and extended her condolences to the family.
