King Frederick’s terrible use of sports analogies and his compulsive habit of mocking himself in speeches is a clever ploy, experts say, and not the mark of an “idiot.”
Royalists have described the monarch’s attempts to address the room, journalists or the public as uncomfortable, embarrassing and a reflection of his intelligence.
But experts, including speech teacher Mette Høien, say the tactics, which also include talking about his wife Queen Mary, are a clever trick to hide his insecurities.
“He loses a little of his current status and credibility because he has been in office for a short time, and that makes him very human,” he said.
Ms Høien, who once criticized the King’s ability to speak, says his performance is now a ten, on a scale of 13.

The king gave two speeches in Sweden during his and Queen Mary’s first official tour as monarchs and used all three tactics liberally.
She believes that if he became “more musical” in his acting, he would also make a better impression.
He also leaned on them, and gave an awkward laugh, during the couple’s first televised interview since taking the throne.
Fans were left dismayed when the King appeared “pointless” during the interview as his wife Mary “one-upped” him.

The Australian-born queen’s efforts in the interview, which was televised on Danish subscription television service TV 2, left royal fans confident that she has taken the reins of both the relationship and her public image after a year of scandal.
Body language expert Dr. Luisa Mahler told FEMAIL that she believes Mary is obviously taking the initiative, while her husband has been “pouting” because he wants to be in control but “won’t let him.”
King Frederik has previously revealed his struggle to have a strong wife, saying that she has reminded him that just because he is a man doesn’t mean he is “automatically believed.” He joked that she let him know that he “may be wrong.”
Dr Mahler said that while the Queen is usually warm and attractive, her body language shows that she is completely blocking King Frederick.
‘Queen Mary looks towards Frederik, but her head is tilted outwards, while her hands are also clasped with her left hand over her right and shielding herself from Frederick. In that distance she seems calm,’ she stated.

“He, on the other hand, seems a little bewildered, his hands keep moving restlessly,” she said, adding that the interview video highlighted “orange flags” in their relationship.
He noted that while most couples would be given the benefit of the doubt depending on the length of their relationship, this is not the case for the royal couple.

“Given the previous tactile behavior and the rumors before they (took the throne), one perceives a challenge,” he said.
It is the first interview with the couple since their fairytale marriage was brought to light by a rumored romance when the then-Crown Prince was photographed enjoying a night out in Madrid in November with glamorous socialite Genoveva Casanova.
In the interview, seen in full by FEMAIL, the King spoke in circles and often failed to reach a clear point, despite being asked very simple questions. This led to many in the Danish press complaining that he seemed “ridiculous”.
He got off to a bad start when he talked about boarding the Royal Yacht, where the interview took place, for the couple’s tour of Scandinavia, a summer tradition for Danish rulers.
‘It is not the first time I have gone up to the Dannebrog, I have done it many times before, this time is very special, it fills me with pride and also amazement since it is the first time I embark as a King with my Queen. We are (here as) a real couple. We’re on the royal ship,’ he said.
Queen Mary gave him a chance to answer each of the simple questions and seemed to grimace as he struggled to get his words out.
Throughout the interview, when it was obvious that the conversation was not moving forward, she took charge.
At one point, the couple was asked to share a favorite memory from the famous ship.
The King immediately intervened and said that he had more memories of the ship than Mary, as he grew up on board with his family.
“I remember joining the deck with the recruits, my brother and I were wearing the white uniform like recruits do, and also the hat,” he said.
He went into detail about the orders involved in preparing the ship for an actual voyage.
