King Charles has urged England to “hold their heads high” after their Euro 2024 defeat and vowed Britain will continue to “roar with pride” for the Three Lions.

The 75-year-old monarch issued a statement to the England team after they lost 2-1 to Spain at Euro 2022 in Berlin last night.

The statement, which was posted on the Royal Family’s official X account, was addressed to England manager Gareth Southgate.

He said: ‘While victory may have eluded you tonight, my wife and I join my entire family in urging you and your support team to keep your heads held high.

‘Anyone who has participated in sporting activities at any level will know how absolutely frustrating it can be to achieve such a result when the prize was so close at hand.

‘And they will join me in sending our deepest condolences, while at the same time congratulating Spain.

‘But please know that your success in reaching the final of the European Championship is a great achievement in itself, and brings with it the pride of a nation that will continue to roar for the Three Lions today and in the many triumphs that undoubtedly lie ahead.’

The letter was then signed: ‘Charles R.’

King Charles’ letter comes after Prince William posted his own message to the England team last night.

The Prince of Wales, who was watching the match in Berlin with Prince George, posted on X: “It wasn’t meant to be this time. We are all so proud of you. Go England.”

After Spain scored early in the match, Prince George looked visibly disappointed as he sat next to his father.

But Cole Palmer’s glorious goal rekindled the Royals’ dream of winning the Euros tonight.

The father and son looked visibly tense and held their heads in their hands as Cole approached the goal.

The royal couple jumped out of their seats and shouted in celebration alongside Keir Starmer.

After the celebration, Prince William turned to hug Prince George, who seemed overwhelmed with joy.

However, William and George’s relief was short-lived as Spain scored again just minutes later, securing victory at Euro 2024.

Earlier in the match, royal fans were excited by the idea that George had become his father’s “mini-me” after Kensington Palace posted images of the father and son’s arrival.

One wrote on X: “Prince George walks exactly like his father. Prince William in miniature!”

Another added: “Adorable. Prince George walks just like his dad.”
