Appearing in the Channel 5 documentary Kate: A Queen for the Future, which airs at 9.20pm on Saturday, Daily Mail editor-at-large Richard Kay spoke about Charles and Kate’s meetings during their stay as patients at the London hospital.
Richard explained: “The king actually made it a point to go and see Kate and there’s a quite moving story of (Charles) in a dressing gown walking up to his daughter-in-law’s flat.
‘They compared notes about the good hospital food and how the treatment was going. “It was a very loving moment.”

Elsewhere in the documentary, The Telegraph’s royal correspondent India McTaggart said King Charles has always valued the Princess of Wales.
She explained: ‘Charles always had a lot of respect for Catherine and said as much in the wedding toast he gave.
“She said they were very lucky to have her and that remains the case to this day.”
At the time, Kate’s former primary school principal, Dr. Robert Acheson, who is also a friend of the Middleton family, told the Daily Mail about the wedding speeches.

Later in the documentary, royal expert Robert Jobson said that Kate Middleton plays a crucial role in King Charles’ relationship with his three grandchildren.
The expert said: ‘Catherine is very important in the relationship between Charlotte, George and Louis and the King.
“When William and the king are not necessarily on the best terms, as parents and children sometimes are, it is always Catherine who makes sure that the king, if he wants to see his grandchildren, sees his grandchildren.”
Royal expert Afua Hagan also commented on how Kate and William are trying to give Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, seven, as “normal” an upbringing as possible.
Afua said: “She has a middle-class upbringing, not a real one, and she wants to bring a bit of that into the children’s lives as much as she can.”

King Charles (pictured with his grandson Prince Louis) is reportedly spending more and more time with his grandchildren in Windsor.
Royal expert Robert Jobson also claimed that the Princess of Wales has also made it clear that her children will always be her first priority.
He added: “What you have to admire about Catherine is the ability to be strong enough and say: ‘no, I can’t do everything.’
‘I think that’s something the late queen didn’t do very well at the beginning of her reign. She wanted to live up to her father’s image of what a monarch was. As a result, her children did not receive the same attention that Kate and William give to her children.
In November 2023, the Mail on Sunday reported that King Charles had been spending increasing time in Windsor to see his grandchildren.
A source said: ‘Charles wants to spend more time with his grandchildren. There is so much love there.
“Before they were miles away from the Welsh, but geographically now they are much closer, so he can spend more time with them, and he is very happy (about that).”
