Lyz, a self-described “proud divorcee,” maintains that divorce is “a practical and effective solution for women to regain the power they are owed,” according to her memoir.

However, many rejected Lenz’s marriage and the comparison to white supremacy, including writer and podcast host Jesse Singal, who suggested the comments were performative and outdated.

“It’s very, very cult-like and perhaps five years ago it was considered a normal way of speaking and was widely accepted in progressive circles,” Singal wrote of the X comment.

Singal was referring to a response to Lenz’s original tweet from journalist Rebecah Boynton, who wrote: “I agree Lyz, but it’s so important that we never forget that rich white men and all rich men in general abuse and murder women too.” Especially when they know they can get away with it.
