Kim Kardashian has come under fire for promoting a full-body MRI that experts have called a scam.
On Tuesday, the 42-year-old reality star posted two images on Instagram of her recent Prenuvo MRI, calling the technology a “lifesaver.”
“The Prenuvo full body scanner has the ability to detect cancer and diseases like aneurysms in their earliest stages, before symptoms arise,” he wrote in his post, which garnered more than 2 million likes.
“It has really saved the life of one of my friends (sic) and I just wanted to share.”
However, there is no evidence that Prenuvo scans, which cost $2,500 and do not accept insurance, have any clinical benefit.
In fact, Kardashian has been criticized countless times in the past for promoting expensive health trends with little evidence behind them, like immunity teas, IV vitamin therapy, and spiritual healing.
“This is not an adequate screening tool for a multiplicity of potentially emerging human diseases and conditions,” Dr. Stuart Fischer, an internal medicine physician in New York, told DailyMail.com.
‘It is not a detection tool.’
Kim Kardashian posted on Tuesday about her Prenuvo full-body MRI, claiming the technology “saves lives.” However, doctors caution that there is no evidence to support that it works.

The American College of Preventive Medicine does not recommend full-body scans for people without symptoms, citing a lack of evidence for their effectiveness.
Dr. Tyler Black, a psychiatrist and pharmacologist in Canada, wrote on Twitter that Prenuvo scans “have not been studied in any clinical trials and more harm is usually done by detecting asymptomatic people with imaging (via false positives) than benefits (true positives).
They are likely part of a vulture medicine movement that seeks to extract money from healthy people under the guise of “giving patients more information.” As someone who went through a year of worry (and) testing due to an incidental (false positive) lung MRI finding, it really sucks.
‘”Your heart’s great, but um, we found a nodule in your lung…” I wasn’t ’empowered’ in the months that followed, I was afraid of cancer. The literature on nodules like mine did not state that “they can be benign or malignant.”
“While I was relieved once subsequent tests showed it was likely benign, I didn’t benefit from the experience. I suffered every night thinking about it, especially trying to sleep. Also, the tests I went through have their own risks.
‘That’s what Prenuvo can offer you for $2500 or whatever they’re charging now.’
The American College of Preventive Medicine does not recommend full-body scans for people without symptoms, citing a lack of evidence for their effectiveness.
Dr. Fischer said preventive MRIs don’t show many diseases that are on the rise in the US, such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, hypertension and high cholesterol.
For example, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) estimates that diabetes accounted for more than 400,000 deaths worldwide in 2021.
“A screening MRI won’t see them at all,” said Dr. Fischer.
Doctors have also criticized Kardashian for spreading misinformation about MRIs. In her post, she states that the Prenuvo scan “was like getting an MRI (sic) for an hour without radiation.”
However, regular MRIs do not produce any radiation as is.
Prenuvo scans are also expensive, costing $2,500. They are also not covered by insurance.
In comments on Kardashian’s post, users said that these scans are inaccessible to most people.
‘Kim, this is for rich people. People can’t buy food right now,” said one user.
Another commented: ‘The fact that most of society can’t even afford insurance for a simple wellness check.’
And one user on Twitter said: ‘I usually take all my medical advice from Kim Kardashian! I’m already signed up for a lobotomy next week.
Instead of opting for expensive scans, Dr. Fischer recommended talking to your doctor about any health issues and more affordable tests.
‘There is no single screening test for human health. If there were, we would all be very healthy,” he said.
‘The right screening tool to prevent disease is a good relationship with a doctor.’
