The 39-year-old man was allegedly armed with a wooden pole and appeared to be high on Morrison Crescent in Kilsyth, in Melbourne’s east (pictured), about 11pm on Saturday. He was restrained by an off-duty police officer and a member of the public before he became unresponsive.
The officer attempted CPR and treated the man with a defibrillator, but he later died at the hospital.

“The investigation will include review of body camera footage that captured the incident.”
