Bo Nickal indicated that he was not happy with his performance despite extending his undefeated record at UFC 300.
The former college wrestling star has enjoyed a spectacular start to his professional MMA career, but on Saturday he faced his toughest test to date with eight-fight UFC veteran Cody Brundage.
From the opening bell, Nickal wasted little time using his wrestling to force Brundage to mate and establish a dominant position.
However, unlike some of his previous opponents, Brundage managed to fend off the onslaught of submission attempts and the crowd at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas made their feelings clear when a stalemate ensued.
Despite being forced into the second round for the first time in his professional career, Nickal was no less dominant in the next frame as he again scored an early takedown.

Nickal insisted that reaching the second round for the first time in his career was an important learning experience.
This time Nickal would take advantage of his positional dominance. The All-American wrestler grabbed his opponent’s back and applied a rear-naked choke with more than a minute left in the round.
Immediately after securing the tap, Nickal seemed to indicate that he was not happy with his performance and gave the crowd a thumbs up.
Speaking inside the octagon after his hand was raised, the 28-year-old insisted the fight had been a good “learning experience”.
“I was hoping to dominate and completely shut this guy out,” Nickal said. ‘I was able to have the experience of passing more than one round. I think he was more confident and went out to fight, it’s a good learning experience, I guess he could have been more tactical.
‘I thank everyone who supports me and those who don’t, everyone will love me, I guarantee it.
‘I want to fight a better guy in every fight. Now I’m 6-0 and most of the guys I fight have between 16 and 20 fights. Anthony Hernandez is a guy I could fight, if they call you to fight me, he just says thank you and signs the contract.’
