“Van Dijk, Henderson, Mane are contenders, but Kevin De Bruyne is the best player in the country by an MILE”: Jamie Redknapp claims that match winner Manchester City surpasses the Liverpool trio in the race for player of the year
- The Belgian international again attracted attention in a 2-0 win over West Ham
- Rodri sent his corner home for the first goal before scoring the second
- Redknapp said the midfielder “stood head and shoulders above someone else”
Sky Sports expert Jamie Redknapp claimed that Kevin De Bruyne should be named player of the year after Manchester City’s win over West Ham.
The Belgian international caught attention again on Wednesday-evening in the 2-0 win at Etihad Stadium and set up Rodri for the opening goal before the second in the second half was added.
Redknapp said that De Bruyne was better this season than Liverpool trio Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane.
Kevin De Bruyne played a leading role on Wednesday-evening in the 2-0 victory
He said: ‘When he is standing in the field, he stands head and shoulders above someone else. I didn’t think Silva could be defeated, but KDB takes it to the next level.
“It was as if he had a force field around him today – nobody was allowed to attack him. His steps are always so inviting and cut open the defense.
“It was also what he did without the ball – his all-round game now on a different level. He is not on the team of the year but for me he is the player of the year. The contenders VVD – great season, Henderson – big fan, even Mane – but look at the figures of KDB – 20 assists – miles ahead of the people around him. He is currently the best player in the country. ”

Former city defender Micah Richards also praised De Bruyne, but said he expected a Liverpool player to collect the prize.
He added: it will go to a Liverpool player – I said Henderson was world class at the start of this year, I was abused on Twitter and now he is second in the race.
“A Liverpool player has to win for me, but there is no one else according to KDB standards.”
