Kevin Costner paid tribute to his on-screen father in a touching tribute on Saturday.
The late actor, who has died at the age of 92, worked with the Oscar winner on Yellowstone, playing John Dutton, Sr.
Costner, 69, took time out of his busy schedule at Cannes, where he is promoting his latest project, to honor the journeyman actor.
In one post, shared on his Instagram Story, the actor posted three stills from a touching scene with Coleman and wrote: “One of the most heartbreaking scenes I’ve ever been a part of.”
‘What an honor to have been able to work with Dabney Coleman. May he rest in peace,’ he continued.

Coleman appeared in an episode of Yellowstone as the father of Costner’s character, John Dutton.
During one of their final scenes together, John disconnects his father’s IVs, pulls him out of his hospital bed, and helps him into his riding gear.
He and John Dutton Sr. travel together to his family’s ranch and sip whiskey from a flask.
Then John Dutton Sr. tells his son, “Don’t let them take it from you, son, not even a damn inch.”
Earlier this week, Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan also honored the late actor, who was his mentor early in his career.
“I had the opportunity to work with Dabney in 2003 and learned invaluable lessons about the power of simplicity as an artist, but most importantly I witnessed Dabney’s humility, grace and patience (with my 10,000 questions).” said. Deadline.
“I never forgot those lessons and was honored when he agreed to appear in Yellowstone,” the writer said.
“His performance was another lesson in bravery and emotional honesty.”

Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan, 53, also honored the late actor, who was his mentor early in his career. Referring to Coleman’s appearance in Yellowstone, he said, “His performance of it was yet another lesson in bravery and emotional honesty.”
Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 was scheduled to screen out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday.
“I would like to thank the Cannes Film Festival for including my film Horizon: An American Saga in this year’s selection,” the writer and director said in a statement.
‘It’s been 20 years since I had the pleasure of being on the Croisette. “I have been waiting for the right time to return and I am proud to say that this moment has come.”
The actor, writer and director said he had been working on the story for decades.
‘Horizon: An American Saga is a story that began 35 years ago, and I can’t think of a better place than Cannes to reveal to the world the result of such a wonderful adventure.’
‘The French have always supported cinema and have believed deeply in cinema. In the same way I believe deeply in my film.’
Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 will be released in theaters on June 28.
Chapter 2 will follow shortly after and will premiere on August 16.
