Kevin Costner was spotted on a rare public outing with one of his teenage sons after returning to the US on Monday.
The Horizon star, 69, was photographed in Summerland, California, as he leaned in to give his son Cayden, 17, an affectionate hug after grabbing lunch together.
The father-son duo were spotted heading to the parking lot after grabbing a bite to eat at the Summerland Beach Café in Santa Barbara County, which wasn’t too far from the sprawling compound where Kevin lives with his younger children, including son Hayes, 15, and daughter Grace, 14.
The Yellowstone director and actor had returned to California after sharing photos of himself sunbathing on a yacht off the coast of Italy earlier this month.
The filmmaker, whose recent Western epic disappointed at the box office, shares Cayden and his two other younger children with his ex Christine Baumgartner, with whom he had been involved in a “crushing” divorce fight since she filed in May 2023.

Kevin had just finished lunch at the Summerland Beach Café with Cayden, which is located in Santa Barbara County, not far from his sprawling compound.
Kevin was dressed in an outfit similar to the one he wore when surfing, with a set of beige shorts that highlighted his tanned legs.
The star paired it with a summery white shirt with the sleeves rolled up halfway down his forearms, along with a pair of black sunglasses and flip-flops.
Cayden preferred bulkier clothing with a pair of baggy jeans, a short-sleeved black button-down shirt, and a camouflage bandana over his hair.
She added a pop of color with some sporty orange sunglasses that stood out.
As Kevin and Cayden prepared to part ways, they hugged each other before going their separate ways.
Earlier this month, Kevin was seen beaming in carefree photos taken on the deck of a boat owned by Italian company Pardo Yachts which he posted on Instagram.
Kevin received plenty of praise in the comments for his movie star look and short shorts, and Chrisley Knows Best star Savannah Chrisley jumped into the comments with a flirty message.
“The smile he gives me when he sees me for the first time,” she wrote, adding a laughing crying smiley face emoji.
The JFK star’s public outings with his children are fairly rare, though he and several of his kids did put their heads together in June at the premiere of the first film in his Horizon: An American Saga series.
His three youngest children rose to fame amid his brutal divorce from his second wife, Christine Baumgartner, whom he married in 2004.
After filing for divorce in May 2023, Christine initially refused to vacate the family’s Santa Barbara home, despite being required to do so by the terms of the couple’s prenuptial agreement.
The Yellowstone star had just returned from a yacht trip off the coast of Italy, which she documented on Instagram for the approval of her fans.
The trip followed the Berlin premiere of his epic western Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1. The film was a box office flop in the United States, though international markets may boost its fortunes.
Kevin’s photos on the yacht were a hit with fans, including Chrisley Knows Best star Savannah Chrisley. “The smile he gives me when he first sees me,” she wrote in the comments.

Kevin was involved in a bitter divorce battle with his ex Christine Baumgartner (pictured in 2022) after she filed for divorce in May 2023. She was ultimately awarded $63,000 per month in child support, far less than the $165,000 per month she was requesting.
The exes sought joint custody of their three children. Christine ultimately received $63,209 a month in child support, much lower than the $165,000 a month she had initially requested.
Costner is also father to Annie, 40; Lily, 36; and Joe, 36, whom he welcomed with ex-wife Cindy Silva. He also shares son Liam, 26, with ex Bridget Rooney.
The filmmaker already finished the second film in his Horizon series when the first was released earlier this summer, though its release date was removed from distributor New Line Cinema’s release calendar after Chapter 1 failed to recoup its $50 million budget.
Costner reportedly began principal photography on Chapter 3 of the series in May of this year, and a fourth and final film is already in development, though the commercial success of previous sequels may affect its fate.
