Kevin Costner revealed that he would love the chance to return to his role as John Dutton for the final season of Yellowstone.
While speaking about the highly anticipated sixth season of his hit western drama, which will return in November, the actor, 69, confirmed that he is looking forward to the opportunity to return to the Dutton Ranch.
“I wish we could do it, but we haven’t been able to,” he said. Entertainment tonight. ‘I thought I was going to do seven [seasons] but now we are at five. So how it works, I hope so, but they have a lot of different programs going on. Maybe I will. Maybe this will come back to me.
He continued: “If it is so and I feel really comfortable with [it]I would love to do it.’

Costner went on to reveal that he has his own ideas about how his character’s story should end.
The father of seven said: “Well, you know, he needs to be proactive about what happens and I’ve had my own fantasy of what that could be like.”
Ultimately, Costner said it’s up to creator Taylor Sheridan.
‘That’s Taylor’s thing. I told him a while ago. I thought how it could happen, but we have to see,” he concluded.
Costner reportedly left the franchise last year amid reports of a dispute with Sheridan, 53.
However, earlier this month, reports emerged that Costner was still planning to return for the final season, according to album news.
The two-time Oscar winner had reportedly been “telling people” that he plans to return “for at least one cameo and possibly more.”
He apparently hopes to “cash into” the desires of the Yellowstone fan base, eager to see Dutton once again.
While discussing the highly anticipated sixth season of his hit Western drama, which is set to air in November 2024, the actor, 69, confirmed he is looking forward to returning to his role as John Dutton (pictured alongside his co-star Kelly Reilly).
“Kevin Costner has been telling people that he plans to return for at least one cameo and possibly more, but there are currently no talks for him to do so,” Puck News’ Matthew Belloni reported.
“Even if Costner significantly reduces his financial demands and time commitment, Sheridan may not want to bother reopening his finished scripts to accommodate John Dutton’s farewell. But Yellowstone fans would certainly love it, something Costner knows and hopes to take advantage, as he always does.
Last year, during a profile of Sheridan, The Hollywood Reporter reported that there were “ongoing discussions” with Costner to film the show’s final episodes. However, at that time the scripts were not yet finished.
Entertainment Tonight reported last year that Costner would be leaving the series after its current fifth season amid his reported breakup with Sheridan.
Yellowstone will officially end with its current fifth season, however, fans have been waiting for over a year for the second half of season five to debut.
“I wish we could do it, but we haven’t been able to,” he told Entertainment Tonight. ‘I thought I was going to do seven [seasons] but now we are at five. So how it works, I hope so, but they have a lot of different programs going on. Maybe I will. Maybe this will come back to me.
The first half of the season aired in late 2022, but the second half has not yet begun filming.
Recently, one of the show’s stars shared an update on when viewers can expect to see more of the Dutton family’s exploits, including as Sheridan moves on to other shows.
Ian Bohen, who began as a recurring cast member at the beginning of the series before joining the main cast in season four, recently told Entertainment Tonight that Yellowstone could begin filming again in late spring or early summer.
If all goes according to plan, the Paramount Network series would return to the air in the fall of this year.
“We’re rumored to be back in May,” Bohen, 47, said at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Oscar party in West Hollywood earlier this month.
He added that Yellowstone would probably film “this summer and then we should start in November or so.”
Bohen also clarified that the start dates were not set in stone, so “it could be June,” he added.
The series would “film six episodes” before airing them starting in “November, maybe December.”
He even suggested that the hit series could schedule its final episode for the biggest television night of the year.
“Then we go through the holidays and maybe the season finale, the series finale maybe the Super Bowl,” the actor said.
Costner reportedly left the franchise last year amid reports of a dispute with creator Taylor Sheridan, 53.
Bohen added wistfully that it was the “end of an era.”
Paramount has already said the show would return in November, and Bohen appears to confirm that goal, although the network has been more reticent about revealing when Yellowstone would return to production.
Now that the series is ending, reportedly due to star Kevin Costner’s departure due to scheduling conflicts and soured relationships with Sheridan, Bohen commented on how strange it feels to be almost done with his character.
“It’s like going to college and grad school with the same people for six or eight years and you’re like, ‘Do we have to leave?’ “So what are we going to do now?” Bohen continued. “It feels empty and strange, so I’ll try to squeeze in every second.”
Despite the behind-the-scenes conflicts that have plagued the series, Bohen was optimistic that he and his co-stars would be on the same page once they were in front of the camera.

“The most important thing, and people come and go and there are all kinds of stories that you can read and hear about, but this story that this show is about is the most important one,” he said. “We’re all components and we all fell madly in love with each other as actors and as people, so we’ll end that on this beautiful glide back to earth.”
He added: “It’s going to be great, so we just want to make the most of the time more than anything.”
Bohen also clarified that he hasn’t seen any scripts for the final six episodes yet, but he was sure fans would be pleased with the send-off.
“You’ll get the best, most satisfying ending the show could have from the mind of our creator,” Bohen stated. taylor [Sheridan] “It’s going to be delivered to the audience, so it will be worth the wait, so we thank everyone for waiting.”
He has been with Yellowstone since its first season as ranch hand Ryan, but Bohen was promoted to the main cast starting in season four.
The two-time Oscar winner has reportedly been “telling people” that he plans to return “for at least one cameo and possibly more.”
During the first half of the now-aired fifth season, his character began a romance with new face Abby (played by country singer Lainey Wilson).
Wilson, who previously weighed in on whether his character would make it out alive at the end of the show, said he would do everything he could to film the final season of Yellowstone, even if he were on tour in the wake of its recent success. at the Grammy Awards.
“I will say this: I would be surprised if Lainey Wilson wasn’t on this season,” Bohen said, delighting fans of the on-screen couple.
“There was a kind of something, a little bit of something, for his character and for mine. I believe that, I don’t know, but I believe that that will happen,” he added.
Although Yellowstone is coming to an end, Paramount is reportedly moving forward with a sequel series it hopes will star Matthew McConaughey.
The network has been negotiating with the star for months to take on a role similar to the one Costner played and give the new show the same star power.
However, McConaughey reportedly won’t sign on until he’s seen the scripts he approves, and he hasn’t been provided any as of February.
Producers are reportedly closer to hiring Michelle Pfeiffer to join the new show as the female lead, although her casting has yet to be confirmed and could still fall apart.
