A Kentucky student who was found in her dorm room with deep cuts and bruises had stopped breathing for 23 minutes — but police remain unsure what caused her injuries.
Isabella Willingham, 21, was found unresponsive in her room at Asbury University on Nov. 27 and was rushed to the hospital, where she was placed in intensive care.
Paramedics told her parents she stopped breathing, suffered deep lacerations, swollen legs and had her acrylic nails ripped off.
The Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Isabella had multiple injuries, cuts and bruises, but reportedly told her parents that she was likely injured by falling out of her bunk bed.
It’s been months since an investigation into the incident began, and her parents still haven’t learned anything new about what happened that night.

Her father Andy Willingham did not believe the authorities’ explanation and told Lex18: ‘There is no way these could have been caused by anything other than someone doing something to her.’
Isabella’s family didn’t hear from her for hours after she returned to campus after Thanksgiving, and they received a troubling phone call.
‘At 11 that night we get a call from the resident director in her dorm room and she tells us that Bella is in an ambulance on her way to the ER, that she had been found unresponsive on the floor of her room by her roommate,” Andy said.
The student spent two weeks recovering at the University of Kentucky hospital while her father waited for Asbury to notify students of the potential threat.
However, he claims that an email was not sent out until more than a week after the incident.
“As a parent, I want to know if there is a possibility that someone entering the school or campus is potentially dangerous,” he added.
Asbury University issued a statement in December saying they were aware of the incident involving Isabella, but did not believe there was a threat to the campus.

But her father Andy Willingham did not believe the authorities’ explanation
But Andy is disappointed that the students were not asked to come forward with information.
He claimed that an email investigating tips was sent to girls in his daughter’s dorm, but not to the entire student body.
‘I contacted them and said this is not right, you need to give a detail so if anyone knows anything they will come forward and the school’s response to me was that we felt they had done everything, what they could do,’ Andy said.
A spokesperson for Asbury University said: ‘This matter is part of an ongoing investigation by the appropriate authorities and with the full cooperation of the university.
‘We are unable to provide any updates or specific information at this time. Asbury’s priority remains the safety and well-being of its students, faculty and staff.’
