Former Australian cricketer and commentator Michael Slater is in custody following his arrest on eight charges, including assault and one count of breaching bail.
The 54-year-old has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, strangulation, unlawful harassment, entering a dwelling during a night’s rest and four counts of common assault.
Mr Slater’s matter was heard briefly today in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
He did not appear and no plea was filed.
Duty solicitor Michael Robinson told the court that inquiries would be made into a rehabilitation centre.
Mr Slater has been remanded in custody and the matter has been adjourned until Tuesday, when a bail application is expected to be made.
The former batsman played in 74 Test matches and 42 one-day internationals for Australia, making his Test debut in 1993.
