Keith Urban compared Miley Cyrus’ voice to ‘an ashtray’ in a recent interview.
Appearing on Nova 96.9 Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie On Thursday morning, the 56-year-old country music star was asked about the 31-year-old Flowers hitmaker.
“Keith, can you tell us about Miley Cyrus and the talent of Miley Cyrus? You’ve performed with her before, right?” asked co-host Ryan “Fitzy” Fitzgerald.
The Australian rocker responded with a glowing tribute to the pop star, before giving her a rare “compliment.”
“I’ve always loved Miley. I love that voice, man, that voice… it sounds like an ashtray. And I mean that as a compliment. It sounds like the carpet at the RSL!” Keith joked.
The musician also lashed out at fake and lying pop artists who exploit country music to appear authentic, often disrespecting the country music industry in Nashville.
“It’s funny because you still need the support of the system in Nashville and if you do it the right way, like Post (Malone) did, you’ll see the love,” Keith said.
Fitzy then asked who the younger players are who are breaking the mould.

“They’re real people, they’re rooted, they’re telling stories. They’re legit. Australians like legit. Luke (Combs) is legit, Lainey Wilson is legit. Morgan Wallen is legit. I think a lot of people are fed up with the bullshit that’s being done with a lot of artists… what’s real and what’s not,” the country music star said.

“Do you enjoy steam facials? I love them,” Kyle, 53, asked Keith.
Keith replied: “I’m always happy to do it, but I always forget,” before revealing he’s even tried expensive LED masks, which aim to stimulate collagen and minimise redness and wrinkles.
When Kyle asked if he’d tried an LED mask, Keith added: “Yeah, they’re pretty good!” as he confirmed he’d joined Nicole and her daughters Sunday, 16, and Faith, 14, in the practice.
Kyle then gushed over Keith’s youthful appearance and admitted that his luxurious skincare regimen must be working for him.
“They obviously work better for you than for me, you’re so handsome!” the radio host joked.
It comes just days after Keith revealed the surprising activity he and his wife Nicole Kidman (both pictured in May 2023) are doing together.
