Police, including SWAT teams and emergency responders, cordoned off the village of Keilor after underworld figure Gavin “Capable” Preston was shot and killed in a car.
Preston, one of Melbourne’s most violent gang figures, was released from prison in April after spending 11 years behind bars for the death of drug dealer Adam Khoury, who was shot dead in 2012.
Preston was also involved in a series of shootings that year after another drug dealer was also injured.

Police and underworld figures had been on alert since Preston’s release.
The 50-year-old criminal was suspected of being involved in the death of former biker Toby Mitchell and allegedly plotted to kill Mick Gatto.
