A 28-year-old woman who had been missing for more than three weeks was found alive but severely beaten.
Kayla Maree Pawa went missing on June 12 and was last seen in Auckland, New Zealand. She was not reported missing until June 27.
They found her on Thursday but a loved one said she was “pretty banged up”.
He is now under police protection.

“She’s been through some traumatic experiences and still can’t make a statement to the police,” the female family member said. New Zealand Herald.
‘I know that when she sees her, she will break down, but we are here for her. We are quite angry about what has happened.
He added that they ‘feared the worst’ when Ms Pawa disappeared, believing she had been kidnapped, and were relieved that she had been found alive.
New Zealand Police confirmed that Ms Pawa had been located.
“Police can confirm that the 28-year-old woman has now been located,” a police spokesman said.
Further investigation into the incident is currently underway and we are not in a position to provide additional comment at this time. A further update will be provided at a later stage.
