The 81st Venice International Film Festival, held at the Lido di Venezia, is organised by the Biennale di Venezia and opened on 28 August with Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice.
The festival will run until 7 September and will see Sigourney Weaver receive the prestigious Golden Lion Lifetime Achievement Award.

George Clooney is already in town, alongside his wife Amal, for the debut of his highly anticipated new film Wolfs, the Jon Watts-directed heist thriller that reunites him with his Oceans 11 co-star Brad Pitt.
Both George and Brad will be attending the September 1 screening.
Brad’s ex-wife Angelina Jolie will also be in Venice to promote the film Maria, in which she plays opera legend Maria Callas.
Sources say the schedules have been arranged so that the warring couple – who remain embroiled in legal action eight years after splitting up – will not be at the film festival at the same time.
Nicole Kidman also made sure to turn heads when she was spotted earlier in the evening at the premiere of BabyGirl, in which she stars, wearing a show-stopping outfit.
The 57-year-old actress stunned in a stunning nude corset top and black velvet skirt as she walked the red carpet ahead of the film screening.
Another big screening will be Joker: Folie à Deux on September 4. The premiere of the sequel will welcome stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga on the red carpet in Venice.
Daniel Craig will also be at the festival to promote his film Queer, which will be screened on September 3.
Venice regulars Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton are in town for Pedro Almodóvar’s English-language debut The Room Next Door, while Nicole Kidman will screen her erotic thriller Babygirl on August 30.
Pupi Avati’s The American Backyard will close the festival on September 7.
