Katy Perry got more than she bargained for when she shared her pick for best movie of the year this week.
On Monday, the Roar hitmaker, 40, took to X (formerly Twitter) to call Demi Moore’s The Substance “the best movie of the year.”
While many of Katy’s fans agreed with her on the film’s merits, the pop star also became a target of trolling for her endorsement of failed presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
—You also said that Kamala was the best candidate. I can’t trust you on anything nowadays,’ one commented.
“I don’t really follow your recommendations after the whole Kamala thing,” wrote another.

The Substance tells the story of Elisabeth Sparkle (played by Demi Moore), an elderly celebrity aerobics instructor who takes an illegal drug to create a younger version of herself.
Katy publicly endorsed Kamala for president against Donald Trump, and even performed at a campaign rally for her.
Over the weekend, comedian John Oliver jokingly blamed Katy’s performance of a Whitney Houston song for causing Kamala to lose the election.
“Personally, I would like to imagine that everything that happened on Tuesday is Katy Perry’s fault because at Kamala’s rally on the eve of the election, she did this reckless coverage,” he said on Last Week Tonight.
“I mean, you’re right, they can’t take your dignity away because you gave it up willingly,” he continued, referencing lyrics from Whitney’s The Greatest Love Of All.
—Now, did that drunken bachelorette party karaoke night doom Harris’ entire campaign? Probably not. But it feels good to think that because it’s an easy answer to a difficult question.’
Meanwhile, some online trolls sarcastically commented that Katy was a fan of The Substance because she saw herself in Demi’s character.
“I know she felt every second of it,” one posted, while another wrote, “He was getting too involved with Elisabeth Sparkle.”

Katy was brutally trolled on social media after praising the film
The Substance tells the story of Elisabeth Sparkle, a famous aerobics instructor with a television show.
Unceremoniously fired on her 50th birthday, Elisabeth discovers a black market drug that can create a “younger, prettier, more perfect” version of its user.
However, the strict conditions of the drug are appalling, and Elisabeth’s need for youth to sustain her career speaks directly to Hollywood’s abandonment of actresses as they age.
