Katy Perry is being investigated for possible environmental violations while filming her latest music video for Lifetimes in the Balearic Islands.
The 39-year-old Fireworks singer, whose recent video has been compared to her 2010 hit Teenage Dream, filmed the nearly four-minute clip on the islands of Ibiza and Formentera.
Throughout the music video, Perry can be seen dancing and singing with friends in a tropical location and also in a crowded nightclub.
However, the Balearic Government’s Department of the Environment is now investigating whether the interpreter and her team damaged the protected dunes of the islet of s’Espalmador, according to the Mallorca Daily Bulletin.
At one point in the clip, Perry moves to the track in a seemingly cordoned-off area near the ocean, with the film crew and crew also nearby.

A preliminary proceeding has officially been initiated while the department further investigates the possible violation.
According to the outlet, the production company involved in the shoot did not acquire or request permission to film in the specific area.
In a press release obtained by BillboardHowever, the department said the music video was not an “environmental crime” because filming was permitted if an application was submitted.
The dunes of s’Espalmador are ‘of great ecological value’ and the ‘best preserved’ area of the Balearic Islands in Spain, according to Balearic Islands travel website.
The islet of s’Espalmador and Ses Illetes are part of the Salinas de Santa Pola Natural Park, a “natural space of 15,000 hectares that protects the south of Ibiza and the north of Formentera.”
The Lifetimes video was officially released earlier this month on August 8, and drew comparisons to her 2010 song, Teenage Dream, from fans.
This comes shortly after her previous single, Woman’s World, notably flopped and failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 upon its release last month in July.
The song, which is geared towards women empowerment, peaked at number 63 in its first week.

However, in a press release obtained by Billboard, the department stated that the music video was not an “environmental crime” because filming was permitted if a request was made.
Woman’s World also failed to reach the top spots on other charts, only reaching number 65 on the Global 200 chart and number 47 on the UK chart, according to Variety.
On Spotify, the song peaked at number 110 on the US chart and number 58 on the global chart.
A source told DailyMail.com shortly after the single failed to chart that Katy was “freaking out” and was holding crisis talks to salvage her career comeback.
“Katy is very nervous right now because she is very aware of the criticism Woman’s World is receiving,” the source said. “She is pointing the finger at everyone but herself, but it is her own fault.”
Perry collaborated with music producer Dr. Luke, who was embroiled in drama with singer Kesha after she accused him of sexual, physical and emotional abuse.
Both Katy and Dr Luke have worked together in the past on hit songs such as I Kiss A Girl. But the source added: “She was crazy to think Dr Luke was a good idea.”
“Instead of diving deep and creating art, she posted something that sounded like it could have been on one of her albums from 2010.”
“You can’t make a song about female empowerment with almost all men. Katy can’t relate to other women because she lives in her celebrity bubble. She doesn’t know anything about what it’s like to be a woman in the real world.”

Perry soon came to the defense of her Woman’s World music video, explaining that she had intended it to be both “clownish” and “sarcastic.”
On Instagram, he shared a behind-the-scenes video as they filmed the clip, saying: “We’re having a little fun, being a little sarcastic with this. It’s very comedic and very direct.”
“With this outfit it’s like, ‘Oooh, we’re not focusing on the male gaze, but we’re really focusing on the male gaze.’ And we’re really going over the top and hitting the nail on the head.”
Both Woman’s World and Lifetimes will be featured on her upcoming album titled 143, which is set to be released next month on September 20th.
In a statement, Katy spoke about the album’s title, explaining: “I set out to create a bold, exuberant and celebratory dance-pop album with the symbolic numerical expression 143 of love as its central message.”
And while she’s focused on releasing her LP following Woman’s World’s chart failure, Perry appears to have found herself in a new investigative drama after filming the Lifetime music video.

And while the music video initially had seemingly flawless visuals, the song itself received greater praise from fans after Woman’s World.
One social media user took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and wrote: “Okay but wow, to me the Lifetimes music video is like the Teenage Dream music video but now more mature and rich.”
Another simply wrote: “Katy Perry is back,” while one fan wrote: “Guys I’m gonna say it… The #LIFETIMES MV is better than Woman’s World. It’s SO BEAUTIFUL I didn’t expect the MV to be THIS GOOD.”
“Katy Perry is going to rock the world again! Lifetimes is a hit!” shared one, while another wrote: “Why wasn’t this the first single? This makes Woman’s World sound like an unreleased demo.”
