Katie Holmes is already strategizing about life as a single mother as her daughter Suri Cruise prepares to move off to college.
“My book club members are going to be mad to hear about me,” the 45-year-old actress said. Town & Country September Issue“I’ll say something like, ‘Let’s meet once a week.'”
The publication noted that Holmes’ group currently meets about five times a year, with the most recent meeting focusing on Abraham Verghese’s 2023 book The Water Pact. (Holmes said, “I read a lot to calm my mind.”)
Holmes, who has fostered Suri’s acting chops, spoke about how she plans to adapt as the 18-year-old is reportedly preparing to move to Pittsburgh to attend Carnegie Mellon University.
“Suri is said to be interested in pursuing a career in fashion or acting,” the magazine reported, which comes after Suri has lived with her mother in New York City for more than a decade.

Suri is said to be “interested in pursuing a career in fashion or acting,” the magazine reported, which comes as Suri is reportedly preparing to move to Pittsburgh to attend Carnegie Mellon University, after living with her mother in New York City.
Carnegie Mellon has several notable names on its roster. Alumni of the Faculty of Fine Artsincluding Oscar-winning actress Holly Hunter, 66, Hamilton star Leslie Odom Jr., 43, Emmy winner Billy Porter, 54, Star Trek actor Zachary Quinto, 47, Cheers star Ted Danson, 76, and the late pop art icon Andy Warhol.
Town & Country highlighted how Suri “has contributed vocals to songs in two of Holmes’ films”: the 2023 drama Rare Objects and the 2022 romantic drama Alone Together.
“I’m proud of my daughter,” Holmes told Town & Country of her daughter with ex-husband Tom Cruise, 62. “Of course, I’ll miss the proximity, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy.”
Holmes, speaking with Glamor In April 2023, he said that he has sought to encourage Suri’s performance in his projects.
“I expect him to always do something in my movies,” Holmes said. “I always ask him to do it.”
Holmes said “both experiences came from the same feeling of what I love about our industry, which is that you have these projects and you become a family with people.”
Holmes said she worked hard to create a “safe, beautiful and creative space” for Suri to hone her craft as an artist.
“For me, to include someone I love very much is a sign of affection,” Holmes said. “It was very meaningful to me to have her there, because she is my heart.”
Holmes, dressed in a Michael Kors ensemble, Manolo Blahnik heels and a Bulgari watch, said of life as an empty-nester: “My book club members are going to be mad to hear from me.”
Holmes, wearing a Prada dress and hat and a Buccellati bracelet, said: “I read a lot to calm my mind,” while attending book club meetings five times a year.
Holmes was seen standing on a chair in a room in one of the photos featured in the post.
The Dawson’s Creek actress posed for a series of artistic images published in the magazine, wearing a Christian Siriano dress in one of the shots.
Holmes has given Suri a platform to showcase her voice in two films she directed and starred in, the 2023 drama Rare Objects and the 2022 romantic drama Alone Together.
The Batman Begins actress was spotted sporting a top hat and a Dolce & Gabbana ensemble in a series of photos.
Holmes has tried in the past to encourage Suri to act in his projects.
The Dawson’s Creek actress, who posed for a series of artistic images published in the magazine, recalled her early adult years, saying: “I remember being this age, this time of beginnings.
“It’s exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that moment, so I’m happy to think about it that way.”
Suri’s college destination was revealed in June when she was photographed wearing a red sweatshirt with the university’s name on it in a TikTok clip that a friend posted before removing it.
The clip, which was set to Miley Cyrus’ Hannah Montana song I’ll Always Remember You, featured the theme ‘LaG Engagement Day.’
He was referring to the New York City performing arts-focused high school, Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, where Suri graduated in June.
“She’s a smart girl and is developing into a mature and intelligent young woman,” a source close to Suri told DailyMail.com in June. “She has a very close group of loyal friends and knows exactly where she’s coming from.”
