Three people are feared dead after a serious two-way truck crash closed a major highway in South Australia.

Social media has been flooded with tributes to well-known truck driver and grandfather Neville ‘Slim’ Mugridge, who has been identified as the victim of the horrific crash on the Eyre Highway in Yalata on Thursday.

Emergency crews rushed to reports of a head-on accident on the highway, which occurred about 27 kilometers west of Yatala, around 6:45 a.m.

It is now known that all three people involved in the accident died after both trucks caught fire.

Loved ones have taken to social media to share moving tributes following the tragedy.

Smithfield Sports and Social Club shared a photo of Mr Mugridge, who has been remembered as a beloved member of the local community and described as an “absolute legend”.

‘RIP friend,’ the post read.

“I still can’t believe he’s gone,” a friend said.

“One of the good ones gone tonight, rest in peace old friend, you will never be forgotten,” one person wrote.

Another said: ‘Rip Slim, legend. I’m going to miss those old talks and advice you used to give us young people. True legend and man lost today, our hearts go out to his family and friends.

Perth-based company The Kleening Zone also paid a touching tribute to the grandfather.

The company described him as “the most loyal, humble and genuine man.”

Following Thursday’s horrific crash, the Eyre Highway, the only road link between Perth and Adelaide, was closed until Friday.

Motorists said nothing could be done when the trucks burst into flames.

Several trucks parked following road closures have been asked to make alternative travel or accommodation arrangements.

“All trucks should park at Yalata or other major service stations,” police said Thursday morning.

“Please be patient while crews attend the scene.”

South Australian Police continue to investigate the collision.
