Kate Winslet has revealed she “refused to cover up her tummy rolls” after being told so by a crew member during the filming of her latest movie, Lee.

The Oscar-winning actress, 48, spoke out about the incident as she embraced her natural beauty while posing topless in the sea for her recent photo shoot with Harper’s Bazaar.

The star plays model-turned-World War II photographer Lee Miller in the biopic, adapted from Antony Penrose’s 1985 biography The Lives of Lee Miller.

However, during filming, Kate revealed that a crew member suggested she sit up straighter to hide her love handles.

Speaking to the magazine, Kate explained: ‘There’s a bit where Lee is sitting on a bench in a bikini… And one of the crew came up between takes and said, “You might want to sit up straighter.”

—So you can’t see my belly rolls? Not even in your dreams! It was deliberate, you know?

She also admitted that she doesn’t mind looking imperfect on screen, explaining: “Quite the opposite. I take pride in it because it’s my life reflected on my face and that matters. I wouldn’t dream of hiding it.”

Kate starred in arguably one of the most iconic nude scenes in cinema of all time in 1997’s Titanic, as Rose, where she reclined on a couch and asked her love interest Jack, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, to “paint her like one of his French girls.”

Meanwhile, while filming a sex scene for Mare Of Easttown in 2021, Kate wanted her character to be portrayed as ‘a fully functional woman, with flaws, with a body and face that moves in a way that is synonymous with her age.’

“I think we’re missing a little bit of that,” she said of the dearth of unfiltered, realistic female bodies in film and television during an interview with the New York Times.

While she acknowledged that her “unglamorous” appearance on the show may be surprising to some viewers, she said she turned down director Craig Zobel’s offer to edit out “a little bit of her bulging belly.”

“Don’t you dare,” she recalled telling him after he assured her the angle would not air.

She also raised some eyebrows for twice returning the series’ promotional poster “because it was too photoshopped” and knows how many “lines” she actually has on the sides of her eyes.

The star will celebrate her 50th birthday next year, but she feels very comfortable with herself and her inner confidence.

She told Harper’s Bazaar: ‘I feel a huge sense of relief seeing women become much more accepting of themselves and refusing to be judged.

‘Because I don’t know any of my contemporaries who grew up watching their mother look in the mirror and say, “I look pretty!” My mother never did that: she was always like, “Oh God, I don’t think I can wear this, do I look like a hippie? Does my bum look big?”

‘We spend so much time feeling bad about ourselves that I don’t think I’ll ever do it again.’

She added: “I think people know that it’s not a good thing to say, ‘Maybe you want to do something about those wrinkles.'”

“I’m more comfortable with myself as the years go by. It allows me to let other people’s opinions evaporate.”

Kate rose to fame when she was just 20 after starring in an adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility in 1995.
