Kate Winslet has revealed a big secret about her iconic kiss scene with Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic.
Rewatching the scene during an interview with The Vanity Fair The actress, 48, recalled the moment she and DiCaprio, 49, kissed on top of a replica of the famous doomed ship.
The Oscar winner explained It was filmed in a part of the set that was difficult to access, so the hair and makeup team couldn’t be there with them.
‘This was a section of the ship. It was not part of the set of boats we had. It was some kind of cut piece. We had to climb a ladder to get to it…the hair and makeup couldn’t reach us,” she explained.
As a result, Winslet was in charge of organizing the couple’s makeup touch-ups and was in charge of carrying the makeup and brushes in her corset.
Patting herself on top, Winslet said: ‘I’ve hidden here and here, I’ve got her makeup, brushes and sponge and my makeup, brushes and sponge on the other side.
‘Between takes, I was basically redoing our makeup.
‘We kept doing this kiss, and I have on a lot of light makeup and I had to do our makeup checks, both of us, in between takes, and I would end up looking like I had been sucking on a candy bar after every take because her makeup would come off.’

DiCaprio faced the same problem, as Kate’s much lighter makeup kept rubbing off on his face during takes.
Winslet said the scene was also difficult to film because DiCaprio couldn’t contain his laughter and director James Cameron wanted perfect lighting.
“It was a nightmare to film this, because I couldn’t stop laughing, and we had to reshoot this about four times because the lighting was…Jim wanted a very specific light for this, obviously, and the sunsets kept changing where we were,” he explained.

The box office success earned Winslet an Oscar nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role and made her a star worldwide, something she found difficult to adjust to.
Speaking to Variety, she said: “I actually felt a bit beaten by it, truth be told… I had a lovely family, but all my family saw was: ‘Oh my God, Kate’s got a job on a really important film.'” You don’t want to turn to your mum and dad and say, “It’s really hard, actually.”
