In a new interview, the Titanic icon revealed that she “refused to cover up her belly rolls” after a crew member told her so during the filming of her latest movie, Lee.

She also admitted Harper’s Bazaar She doesn’t mind looking imperfect on screen, saying: “I’m proud of it because it’s my life reflected on my face and that matters. I wouldn’t dream of hiding it.”

She has proudly rejected Hollywood’s beauty standards and is a symbol of changing attitudes, expressing her “relief that women are much more accepting of themselves.”

But how is Kate taking care of herself as her biggest birthday approaches?

The star has been notoriously anti-surgery for years, once stating that “it goes against my morals, the way my parents raised me and what I consider natural beauty.”

Instead, take an inside-out approach, focusing on what you ingest, especially before public appearances.

“Sleep and health are very important for a healthy appearance. If I am very tired or stressed, no makeup or hairstyle can hide the effect that has on my face,” she said.

Kate eats a balanced diet and shares cooking duties with her vegan husband, Ned Abel Smith, but says she will give up her favourite sweets in the days leading up to a red carpet event.

‘I try to take care of myself in the days leading up to that moment. Nothing fancy or expensive… my main advice would be water. Water, water, water. Keep your body hydrated and your skin will follow suit.’

She added that she tries to “stay away from salt and alcohol before an important occasion and make some green smoothies in a Nutribullet.”

Among his favorite pleasures is wine, but as he ages he realizes that the rich diet and excess alcohol take their toll.

“When I was younger I could do a lot more things, but now I try to take care of my skin from within, with good food,” she advises.

“I don’t eat meat anymore. I drink a lot of water every day and take my supplements when I remember.”

She also understands the importance of makeup as she ages, and has created a book of tricks with her longtime makeup artist, Lisa Eldridge, so much so that she often feels comfortable doing her own makeup before an appearance.

Her signature red carpet look is a bold red lip, and rightly so, as she has explained that she doesn’t like anything “too heavy around the eyes, where makeup can build up and make a person look older.”

As for exercise, Kate, like many, jumped on the Peloton bandwagon during the pandemic, declaring she was “in love” with her stationary bike.

A Peloton ride also helps her improve her mental health after a long, emotionally draining day on set, like the ones she had during the 2021 filming of the gritty crime drama Mare Of Easttown.

“That was pretty much the only thing I couldn’t do without, because it helped me decompress,” he said of his bike at the time.

“The sweat factor, the challenge involved, the great talk from the instructors. Sometimes I moan, scream or cry on the bike – I can release so much. I’m learning that my body is capable of more than I thought it was, which has helped me a lot.”

Another fitness trend that has caught on with Kate in her idyllic Sussex village, where she lives with Ned and their ten-year-old son Bear, is cold water swimming, which she credits with helping her circulation and keeping her skin clear.

It was her husband who introduced her to cold water swimming, and the actress referred to Ned as a big fan of Wim Hof, the Dutch motivational speaker and extreme athlete also known as The Iceman.

The family own a beach hut on the West Sussex coast and Kate can often be found there, warming up after a swim in the sea, but she also incorporates Hof’s philosophies into her daily life, challenging herself to stay in a cold shower for as long as possible each morning.

When she’s not on her bike or in ice-cold water, she loves taking power yoga classes a couple times a week and walking the dog daily with her family.

And with her wholesome, refreshing, and very British approach to health and beauty, Kate is doing her part to take the pressure off Hollywood standards.

“I want to tell any woman who tries to emulate Hollywood style: it’s a myth. Honestly, it’s a myth,” she told Vogue.

“Women who appear on the red carpet have spent four hours in hair and makeup to look like this and have probably had facials every day of the week leading up to the event. I know because I’ve been there and had a lot of facials.”

“It’s a moment in time. For me, the secret to aging at any age, in Hollywood or not, is to accept who you are and accept that we can’t fight change.”

“Of course we can do things to take care of our health and our skin, to feel a little better and last a little longer. But for me, the important thing is that beauty comes from within and not to be so self-critical. That’s very important.”
