Dame Anna Wintour arrived at Vogue World alongside British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful as they presented a united display following reports of a power struggle.
The Mail on Sunday reported that Enninful had hoped to one day replace Wintour, but the Vogue editor-in-chief is determined to stay put and will “swat out any rivals like a fly.”
The celebration comes just three months after the shock announcement that the British-Ghanaian former model and fashion stylist will be stepping down as editor-in-chief of British Vogue after six years at the helm of the magazine.
Upon his departure in early 2024, Enninful will take up a “global advisory role” at Vogue, “with the freedom to take on broader creative projects.”
Thursday’s event will serve as a fundraiser for the UK performing arts industry, with Vogue editor-in-chief Anna overseeing proceedings.
The first Vogue World event included a fashion show and street fair when it took place in New York’s slaughterhouse district in 2021, but the ceremony in London is expected to be a grander affair.
The dress code was opening night, with the invitation revealing a West End stage decorated with blood-red velvet curtains.
Organized by BAFTA and Olivier award-winning director Stephen Daldry, show director Emily Burns and creative producer Fran Miller, along with the Vogue team, the evening showcased a wide range of performing arts.
However, viewers were left baffled by the spectacle as Kate Moss took to the stage to do an interpretive dance and Cara Delevingne sported a punk mohawk.
