Kate’s arrival at Cannes comes just months after she revealed she is “looking forward” to her return to acting after taking a two-year break to be with her family and enjoy a much-needed “reset”.

The actress worked so hard while starring in and executive producing HBO’s Mare Of Easttown in late 2019, that she decided to give herself time to recover.

Despite a confession of having to ‘physically approach big men’ during filming, she said she ‘loves her job’ and is ‘ready to get back to it’.

The Oscar winner told Variety: “I took the last year off to be with my family and recover from Mare of Easttown.” It was good to have a bit of a reset.

And without giving away too much, Kate revealed that she is beside herself with excitement as she prepares to “get going” with upcoming projects.

She said: ‘For an actor, there is nothing more exciting than being in a room with other actors. I’m looking forward to that again. But I’ve got a lot going on this year, so I’m excited to get started.’

Kate married her first husband, Jim Threapleton, in 1998. They welcomed 21-year-old daughter Mia Threapleton in 2000 and then divorced a year later in 2001.

Kate welcomed her youngest son, Bear, aged eight, with her third husband, Edward Abel Smith, they married in 2012.
