Kate Winslet has improved her sex life by undergoing testosterone replacement therapy.

The 48-year-old British actress, who has been married to husband Edward Abel Smith (formally known as ‘Rocknroll’ Ned) for 12 years, says she feels ‘sexy’ again following the treatment.

And the Titanic star is encouraging other women who have seen their libido plummet to get their testosterone levels checked, believing it could be the reason they are put off having sex.

Testosterone replacement therapy (known as TPT) is a prescription treatment that helps restore testosterone levels.

The mother-of-three said: ‘Sometimes women suffer a real drop in libido because there may be some problem with the thyroid.

What is testosterone replacement therapy?

Studies have shown that testosterone at supraphysiological, but not physiological, levels can increase sexual desire in women.

In 2022, the NHS reported that nearly 5,000 women aged 50 and over were receiving the treatment.

In 2015, just over 400 women were receiving the treatment on the NHS.

‘There could also be problems with your testosterone level.

‘A lot of people don’t know this, but women have testosterone in their bodies; when it’s gone, like eggs, it’s gone, and once it’s gone, you have to replenish it, and that’s something you can do and you’ll feel sexy again… I know.’

Kate was giving advice during a mini-agony aunt section in the Podcast How to fail.

A listener had asked for help rediscovering his sexual desire.

Kate continued: ‘I would suggest that when it comes to your fitness, you get your thyroid and testosterone levels checked properly, because those things could have a direct impact on how you actually feel.

‘It’s not your fault, our bodies are weird and behave strangely, especially as we get older.

“So there could be a drop in your hormone levels that is contributing a lot more than you think to how you feel about having sex with your boyfriend, so I would definitely go ahead and do it.”

Kate’s appearance has been the subject of intense scrutiny throughout her career, but she has never been more confident about her looks as she believes women get “sexier” as they get older.

Asked how she feels about her body now, the Oscar winner says: “I’m really good with it, I think I look amazing. We have to accept it, that’s the important thing.”

“Women in their 40s are so conditioned to think, ‘Well, I’m getting close to the end.’ You think you’re going into menopause and you’re going to stop having sex, your breasts are going to sag and your skin is going to get ugly. First of all, so what? It’s just conditioning.

“I think women, as they get older, they get juicier and sexier and feel more grounded in their truth about who they are and become more powerful, more able to walk through the world and worry less, and that’s something that’s empowering. I tell my friends all the time, ‘you look amazing, you look great.'”

This is not the first time Kate has spoken openly about her health issues, as she previously revealed she had a problem with incontinence, brought on by stress.

Additionally, she has also documented previous concerns about her weight, having admitted to having an eating disorder when she made her Hollywood breakthrough in her early twenties.

The actress, who also acts as co-producer, does nude scenes in the film but insists that stripping off in front of the camera is not “brave”.

She says: “It’s so upsetting, bravery is going to the frontline, bravery is being an NHS nurse during COVID, that’s bravery. It’s not incredibly brave to go topless or not wear makeup or Botox so you can move your face around and transform it into different characters. That’s not bravery, that’s just being a real person.”

—So why do they use the word brave? I think it’s because they haven’t found a better word yet.
