She has been married to former Royal Marine Mike Heron since 2010, five years after they first met, and the couple now share two children: Wilbur and Clemency.

But Kate Silverton has revealed that she needed therapy to choose between boyfriends AFTER meeting her now-husband, admitting she “thanked him” for waiting while dating other men.

The Strictly star, 50, explained that she was such a commitment-phobic that she continued to date other men even though she knew Mike was “The One,” and sought help from a therapist who told her she had the problem was – not the men.

Kate met her husband Mike during a week-long training course in a war zone in 2005, but claims she was “scared” of committing to him because she knew he was “The One.”

After dating other men, the host finally decided to commit to Mike completely and gave up on the Question time white wine podcast that she feels “thankful” that he understood she had to “get it out of her system.”

Kate said: ‘[After the course] he held out his hand. It wasn’t long after that, but we met again.

“I think we knew, but I was such a commitment phobe. I started and stopped a few times when we decided to get together.

“I actually went to a therapist and said, ‘Look seriously, I have these men and I can’t choose between them, I have this problem and I just need help with it, please’.

‘She said, ‘Look, my love, the problem is not with them, but with you.’

The broadcaster added: ‘I have been really lucky and have had beautiful, sweet boyfriends. But there was always this “where is it and shall I know”. When I met Mike I knew wist [he was the one] and that just scared me.

‘How can I trust this feeling? I am 35 and have met many lovely men. He was a nice man, but we seemed worlds apart in terms of where we came from.’

Kate, who is still in touch with her previous boyfriend, said: ‘It happened over time, I don’t like to overlap’ [relationships]. I really wanted to give that relationship a chance to see what worked there.

“Then all of a sudden it became very clear and I had to have that honest conversation by just saying ‘Look, I’ve met someone’. I actually went out with other men as well.

‘I broke up with Mike again and’ [other men] kept saying to me “look you’re obviously in love with this man mike what are you doing?” And I said “really? Is it so obvious?”

‘I thanked [Mike] to wait and he said “look you obviously need this to get this out of your system”. I think it was that “he’s the one” thing and that’s it, that’s it for life.

“There was something in it that I had to pick and luckily my beautiful husband got it. He just said “do your thing”.

“Then, thankfully, I understood what it was that had sent me everywhere and made that commitment, and we’ve never looked back. He is my soul mate.

“My therapist, who is now a friend, came to the wedding and said, ‘Everyone says he’s lucky to have you, but let me tell you you’re extremely lucky to have him.'”

Kate – who is now doing a Masters in Child Psychotherapy – married Mike in 2010 after proposing in Rome, and now shares two children.
