Kate Middleton altered her Roland Mouret dress for the red carpet
She’s known for having her clothes tailored to eliminate revealing necklines and sexy slits, and last night Kate Middleton wore another dress that had been altered to make it more modest for a royal engagement.
The Duchess of Cambridge stunned in an off-the-shoulder, floor-length Roland Mouret gown, originally priced at £2,700, as she joined her husband, Prince William, at the London premiere of Tom Cruise’s much-anticipated film , Top Gun: Maverick.
However, the French designer’s original dress, which is from a past season and is currently only available to rent, featured sheer mesh panels at the back and a long zipper, which were missing from Kate’s dress.
It seems that the duchess made the subtle changes. to give your ensemble a more modest touch, making it more elegant and smart for the red carpet.
Kate Middleton altered the Roland Mouret dress she wore to the Top Gun: Maverick premiere last night, left. The original design, on the left, had a transparent black, but the Duchess of Cambridge had to cover it up.
The original version of the fitted black dress featured four sheer panels in the back, with a zipper down the center.
Kate’s dress, however, was simple with the back made of solid material and no zipper.
The rest of the dress was the same as the original: all black with a white band at the neckline, revealing Kate’s shoulders.
The Lamble Off The Shoulder Dress is described as “elegantly off the shoulder to enhance your cleavage” on the Front Row website, where it is available to rent.
The mother-of-three rocked a very edgy look in the form-fitting dress, but kept things tasteful with some clever modifications.
The description continued: “Crafted from sculpted stretch crepe, this elegant design is darted at the waist and hips to create a beautiful hourglass silhouette. We love the unexpected sheer mesh panel at the back.
Kate paired the monochrome gown with an embellished Alexander McQueen Black Velvet Crystal clutch bag, costing £2,318.
As for shoes, she donned her Prada Black Suede Wave Cutout Pumps, which she has worn on multiple occasions in the past.
Mouret’s dress also featured a cheeky cut under the arm, on the right, but Kate also altered it so that her bust was completely covered, on the left.
The Duchess completed the look with a new pair of earrings, which were the Robinson Pelhamm Tsar Star Stud and Drop Earrings that cost £10,560.
These dangle earrings featured tiny diamonds and stars on both ends of a thin silver chain.
Keeping her makeup minimal, Kate wore a little black eyeliner, lots of black mascara, blush, and a subtle red lip. Meanwhile, her brunette locks were flattened.
The Duchess often re-wears outfits or modifies garments for herself, making them bespoke items.
In December 2019, the mother-of-three transformed an Alessandra Rich gown before wearing it for ‘A Berry Royal Christmas,’ ditching a waist-high slit and a revealing the keyhole opening at the neckline, before adding a wide bow to the neck of the dress to make it a fitting royal attire.
Other transformations are a little less obvious, with modest alterations to garments, including changes to the shape and style of sleeves.
