Kate Garraway’s absence from Good Morning Britain was explained on Friday, after she left her radio show mid-broadcast earlier this week.

The presenter, 56, was “sent home” from Smooth Radio on Wednesday just 30 minutes after going on air after losing her voice, leaving co-presenter Tina Hobley holding the fort.

Speaking on GMB, Charlotte Hawkins confirmed Kate’s poor health, saying: “She would be here today but she has lost her voice.” She is fine but she can’t talk.

Referring to Kate’s raising awareness of carers, Adil Ray joked: “She’s lost her voice, she’s been too influential over the last year.”

Before adding: “Be less influential, Kate, and get better soon.”

Kate, who was due to host Lorraine and replaced by her friend Ranvir Singh, returned to Good Morning Britain two weeks ago following the funeral of her husband Derek Draper, following his death in January.

It comes after Kate fought back tears as she came face to face with a man who shared a hospital ward with her late husband Derek Draper.

She was visibly emotional during an interview with children’s author Michael Rosen, 77, who was in the same intensive care unit as Derek as they battled Covid.

In the moving interview, Michael and Kate spoke about the new ITV drama Breathmaking, which depicts the ordeal of NHS staff during the pandemic, as well as their own battle with “survivor’s guilt”.

Michael was in intensive care for 47 days when he contracted Covid in 2020, and previously admitted he was just “hours away from dying”.

Derek He died at the age of 56 on January 3 of cardiac arrest, after years of multiple health complications after contracting Covid.

During Thursday’s interview on Good Morning Britain, Kate explained to viewers that she initially didn’t know that Michael and her late husband were battling Covid at the same time.

She said: “Derek was in the same ward and you were in a coma at the same time,” before remembering the kind words of a nurse who had been transferred to hospital from Great Ormond Street.

During the interview, Kate and Michael also discussed the lack of PPE available to NHS staff during the pandemic, as well as Michael’s struggle with “survivor guilt.”

“A lot of staff feel guilty, which they shouldn’t do, but they do feel guilty about what they could have done differently, plus shock and trauma.”

‘And in your own way you have felt – although again you shouldn’t – you have felt guilt, tell us about that.’

Referring to Derek’s death, Michael said: ‘Well, I’m telling you, Kate.

‘I hear about people who died and I meet people, I get in a taxi and the taxi driver says their relatives have died from Covid. And I think, ‘Why am I here?’

Ben also detailed his own experience watching his old friend Kate struggle with Derek’s health battles for months after contracting Covid.
