Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll has said she may not renew her contract, bizarrely announcing the move in a series of text messages to reporters.

It comes after a tumultuous week that saw the commissioner face pressure from the ranks after a senior Gold Coast police officer was stood down.

It was claimed the officer helped catch armed criminals by authorizing officers to ram a stolen car.

Queensland’s first female police commissioner will meet Police Minister Mark Ryan on Tuesday to discuss her future.

Carroll sent a text message to the media saying he is “considering his options.”

‘I have not yet had formal conversations with the Minister. “Those talks will begin soon and I cannot ask for an extension of my contract,” he said.

‘I have been from the G20 to the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service for over 11 years at the highest level. I am seriously considering my options and am not asking for an extension.’
