Kat Dennings opened up about appearing on the beloved HBO series Sex and the City when she was a teenager.
On a recent episode of The View, the 38-year-old actress reminisced about her guest role on the show, in which she played Samantha Jones’ (Kim Cattrall) rich and spoiled client, Jenny Brier, in Season 3.
“Well, it was really interesting because of course I wasn’t allowed to watch Sex and the City when I was a kid,” she told hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Sara Haines last week.
She noted that she was unfamiliar with the television series in general, adding, “We didn’t even have cable, our family, so I really had no idea what the show was.”
‘So, I auditioned for it. I thought, “What a strange show. What a strange title.” And then on the way home, on the train, we saw a building, like a Sex and the City poster all over the building,” he recalled.
The former Two Broke Girls star continued: “And after I did that and walked into The Gap in Pennsylvania, people were like, ‘Oh my God, it’s Jenny Brier!’ Give her the employee discount!’ I was getting discounts!’

Dennings starred in scenes with Cattrall when her character hired Samantha’s public relations services, using her father’s money, to throw a star-studded party for her bat mitzvah.
At one point, Jenny and her friends, wise beyond their years, run into Carrie, Samantha, and Miranda at a Manhattan restaurant, shocking the four women with how grown-up (and explicit) they are.
At another point, Jenny labels Samantha “grandma” when she lectures the teenagers about being “a little young” to talk about sex and tries to convince them to enjoy being kids while they can.
During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2022, Dennings revealed that when the episode aired, her mother invited her friends to a viewing party.
But she quickly turned off the television when she realized that her daughter’s character was openly talking about sex in some scenes.
A few days ago, Kat stopped by The View to promote her new ABC comedy Shifting Gears, in which she stars alongside Tim Allen.
She plays the character of daughter Tim in the multi-camera comedy pilot, which premiered last week.
The longtime entertainer is also a producer for the 20th Television production.

“We didn’t even have cable, our family, so I really had no idea what the show was,” he shared on a recent episode of The View, adding, “I wasn’t allowed to watch Sex and the City as a kid.”

In Shifting Gears, Allen, 70, plays Matt, “the headstrong, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop,” according to Deadline.
“When Matt’s estranged daughter Riley (Dennings) and her teenage children move into his house, the real restoration begins,” the synopsis teases.
Riley clashed with her father as a child and left the family home to marry the boyfriend she hated.
“Now divorced, Riley is forced to return home with two children, hoping that she and her father can make things work this time,” the record adds.
The series is written by Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully, who also serve as executive producers alongside Last Man EPs Standing Allen, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker and Rick Messina.
