Getafe president Angel Torres has insisted that Mason Greenwood would be in favor of remaining at the La Liga side beyond the end of his season-long loan from Manchester United.

The England striker was suspended in January 2022 after being arrested on suspicion of raping and assaulting a woman.

Greenwood was subsequently charged with a series of offenses which were later dropped, and he was sent to Getafe on loan until the end of the season in September following a United investigation into his behaviour. He has always denied any wrongdoing.

It had been understood that the Greenwood academy product would not play for United again. However, by completing his £1.3bn minority investment in the Manchester club, Sir Jim Ratciffe appeared to open the door to a return, saying a “new decision” will need to be made.

Torres, however, has remained optimistic about retaining the 22-year-old beyond this period and even stated that Greenwood would prefer to stay at the club.
