White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked Tuesday if President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ post-election lunch at the White House was “awkward.”
Harris returned to the White House complex on Tuesday for the first time since her painful election loss a week ago to former President Donald Trump.
Attendees stood on the steps of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building to catch a glimpse of the now-former Democratic candidate, who told them to keep the faith before approaching to have lunch with Biden.
‘I don’t even understand it. Why would it be uncomfortable? Why would it be uncomfortable? Jean-Pierre responded to Fox News’ Peter Doocy. ‘Why would you characterize it as uncomfortable? They have regular lunches. They meet and talk regularly.’
Jean-Pierre then noted Biden and Harris’ joint appearance on Monday to commemorate Veterans Day at Arlington National Cemetery.

‘Did you see the show of force together?’ she asked.
While he said he didn’t want to address the “premise of this question,” he said Biden and Harris “had lunch today.”
“They have had lunch many times,” he added. ‘They had the opportunity to discuss during the last 70 days or so of this administration, how important it is to get things done for the American people, and that is their focus. “That’s really their goal.”
On Monday, Harris appeared somber as she walked alongside the 81-year-old president to a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
But it was first lady Dr. Jill Biden’s stony expression as she sat next to Harris that sparked all kinds of online chatter.
While there was some bad blood between the two women after Biden’s first debate appearance alongside Harris in Miami in June 2019, Dr. Biden officially campaigned for Harris in the run-up to Tuesday’s election past.
As for the president, he was largely sidelined late in the campaign cycle because he accidentally called Trump supporters “trash.”

The White House insisted it was referring to a Trump-aligned comedian as “trash” after the comedian, Tony Hinchcliffe, insulted the entire island of Puerto Rico at the Republican rally at Madison Square Garden.
There was even a battle between Biden’s press tent and the White House stenographer’s office after Biden’s press aides changed punctuation on a transcript to suggest Biden was just calling a Trump supporter, comedian, “trash,” unlike all Trump supporters.
The now president-elect compared it to how Hillary Clinton called the faithful of her MAGA movement “deplorables” before her 2016 loss to him.
Eight years later, Democrats are again licking their wounds.
Trump heads to Washington, DC on Wednesday to meet at the Capitol and then to the White House for the traditional meeting between the current president and the president-elect.
