Kara Tointon has opened up about ageing, insisting she “embraces age” and sees it as attractive rather than “scary”.
The actress, 40, said becoming a mother has meant she has less time to maintain her youthful appearance, but said it was “very reasonable” as “you only have one focus.”
The former EastEnders star is mother of two children, Frey, five, and Helly, three, with ex-fiancé Marius Jensen.
speaking to The sun on Sunday, said: “I don’t think I look young, I’m getting older like the rest of us.” Motherhood hits you like a punching bag, which is why there is no beauty regimen at the moment.
‘But it has been an incredible dose of reality. Motherhood is very fundamental, I can assure you. Everything goes out the window and you only have one focus.’

Kara added that another benefit of getting older is that she can play more “stimulating” roles, going from being children and teenagers to being mothers, with which she is more able to identify.
She explained: ‘I’ve been doing this since I was very young. You’re the kid, then you’re the fucking teenager, then you get to the stage where you’re neither here nor there. It’s lovely when you get to the age where there are more out there.
‘There’s more material, it’s really nice. We’re also entering a period where the scope is very broad, but I’m enjoying all these mom roles coming up. As a mother, I can really relate to them.’
The former Strictly Come Dancing champion also said she believes things are getting better for women now and there is less pressure to continue looking young, while she herself “enjoys” getting older.
She said: “We are in very changing times – it’s a good time for women in general.” It’s like age is becoming less important. I’m really enjoying getting older and I’m at a stage in my life where I feel good about my skin.
‘I’m embracing age and I’m excited to do it. I think age is attractive. It’s very personal. Some people are terrified, but I’m lucky I’m not terrified.
Kara returns to TV screens this month, after working mainly in theater for the past few years, landing her first lead role in Too Good To Be True.

She soon meets wealthy businessman Elliot, played by Allen Leech, who offers her more money to clean exclusively for him, before a dark twist reveals that all is not as it seems.
Speaking to the Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine last month, Kara explained that she had opted for theater for the past eight years because she preferred roles, but was returning to filming because she loved the character of Rachel.
She said: ‘In the past I used to prefer theater because I felt the roles I was given were braver.
“But with Too Good To Be True I could really join Rachel and immerse myself in it.”
However, two weeks before filming on the four-part Channel 5 series wrapped, Kara was injured in a fight scene.
She explained: ‘I tore my ACL. It was after a morning of running. All I did was put my leg on the ground and my knee buckled.’
She was forced to spend the rest of filming with her leg in a cast, and the camera angles had to be altered to conceal her, with a body double used for some scenes.
She admitted: “It was a couple of months before I could move my leg again.”

It comes after Kara split from her ex-fiancé Marius in 2022, and was later seen sharing a kiss with an unidentified woman outside a London club.
Their split was reported in October 2022, but sources said the couple secretly split 10 months earlier.
A source said Sun at the time: ‘Kara and Marius quietly split up about 10 months ago. There was no wrongdoing on either side and they both still care about each other.
‘But they came to the decision that there was no future for them as a couple. They remain friends and are both very committed to co-parenting their two children.’
Kara and Marius went public with their relationship in 2017 after meeting the previous year, and had planned to get married in 2020, before the pandemic put a halt to their plans.
Too Good To Be True airs on Wednesday 14 February at 9pm and continues on Thursday 15 February at 9pm Stream the full series on My5.
