Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Charles Omenihu gave a big thank you to his mother for helping him during his recovery after tearing his ACL and missing the Super Bowl.

Omenihu suffered the long-term injury during the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens, the Chiefs’ game prior to their Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers earlier this year.

Omenihu was a constant presence on Kansas City’s defense, which recently broke the stigma surrounding its unit.

In previous seasons, superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes was perceived to win even though the Chiefs’ defense was average. Since the team traded wide receiver Tyreek Hill, it has gained enough assets to build a solid defense.

Omenihu was one of them, coming to the Chiefs from the 49ers last year.

Omenihu gave a big shout out to his mother on ‘Up & Adams’ as he recovers from a torn ACL.

“Words cannot describe how much I appreciate my mother,” Omenihu said in Up and Adams. ‘My mom is my rock, she is my reason for everything, she is my why.’

‘She has helped me throughout this entire process. She has kept me strong and I love her from the bottom of my heart,” Omenihu continued.

‘I was saying to him “what do you want as a thank you for doing this?” I say thank you all the time, I make sure she knows she is appreciated all the time. But it’s like he wants to make her even happier,” Omenihu added.

‘It’s not easy to help someone get through this. I was really helpless, I couldn’t do anything. Nothing for me, so the fact that she has been there every step of the way, as a man, as a son, you couldn’t ask for a better mother,” Omenihu concluded.

Omenihu had seven sacks in 2023 and is entering the final year of his 2-year contract.

A torn ACL typically entails a recovery of several months, giving Omenihu a chance to be fully healthy by the start of the next season.

He is under contract with the Chiefs through the end of next season, where Omenihu is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent.

Omenihu had seven sacks last season and has said publicly that he believes he did enough to earn a new contract with the team.

“I think the tape speaks for itself,” Omenihu said via NFL Network. “I think I showed a dominant running game and then with the pass rush, inside and out and just winning one-on-one, creating turnovers, being the spark and, like, the power plays that they wanted me to be when I arrived there. ‘
